The Souls Within |
Chapter Five (end) |
That morning passed sleepily, as if everything was smudged together in a blur. For a time after, each morning seemed to be as equally joyous, and as blurred, as that first morning was. Those later months were the happiest of both Gray's and Silver's lives. Silver and Gray awoke at nearly the same time, and they sleepily and happily smiled at each other to begin their day. Their days had begun in this manner, and ended in the same. Silver squeezed Gray's paw as he caressed it back, and she moved her head to look into his eyes. "I love you," she whispered to him. He smiled brighter as he replied with the same sentence. As they held each other in the morning sun, Silver asked a question that Gray had never come across, let alone pondered before. "Twilight?" "Yes, honey?" "What if we were human?" Gray held his breath for a moment, then let it out as he began his thought, "Well..." he sighed. "If we were human... wow, Silver, I've never thought about it before." He paused again. "So, what if we were human?" She smiled her sly smile. "I'm not sure... I just wanted to ask you, and get you thinking." She sighed happily and smiled. "I've thought about it a lot, there's just no answers for me to tell... just dreams." Gray caressed Silver's cheek with his paw as he leaned in close to her. He nodded, then closed his eyes and kissed her softly. She closed her eyes as well, and kissed him back in the same manner, just taking it slow and gently. Timidly, Silver began to growl at Gray as they kissed, and he answered by growling softly in return. This kiss was continuing like none of the others they had ever shared; it was as if they were finally releasing all the bottled up feelings inside for each other. All the passion, the love... the intense feelings kept under wraps were being surged throughout their veins, and being transferred to the other to feel. Silver wrapped her paws around Gray's neck, although it was done clumsily, as if her limbs were longer than they'd always been. They seemed to be the length of human arms. She started to shake because of these feelings surging through her entire body, and of this confusion of the unordinary. Gray held Silver tighter and with a tighter grasp than paws... it was more like hands. He held her close to try and stop his own involuntary shaking. Silver moved her hand to take hold of Gray's as she felt both her and his soft fur disappearing. She squeezed the hand and grasped his tight as she intensified the kiss, setting her heart free and releasing these feelings. Gray started to breathe more deeply as he also kissed more deeply, caressing Silver's skin to his own, feeling the different softness. He pulled away and took a breath, then opened his eyes to find himself staring at a humanoid female. Her eyes were light, sparkling silver. He paused as his true, blue eyes widened to capture this creature's gaze. He squeezed Silver's hand again and felt her soft skin where there was once beautiful fur. Gray looked down at his paw to find a hand, holding Silver's own hand. Unsure of what exactly had just happened, they both began to breathe faster than normal. They never let go of each other as they began to answer their question of wonder, "What if we were human?" Silver closed her eyes and rested her head beneath Gray's neck, realizing exactly who he was. Gray wrapped his arm clumsily around her body as he closed his eyes. The couple stayed in each other's arms for the rest of that day, and that night, becoming accustomed to the other species. Their souls within remained, which was the only thing that mattered. It was the only thing that had ever really mattered. |
