"Of all the people I know, you are one of them."
--Andy DelBarco
I first met Andy during the summer of 1992.  I worked with him at the Museum of Television and Radio.  He always wore black, carried an old Super-8 Camera and smoked Lucky Strike cigarettes.  He was fired towards the end of the summer for dancing on the membership table.  I returned to college shortly after he was fired.  When I returned to New York in the Fall of 1993, I would often run into Andy in the East Village.  Many times I would see him hanging out in the lobby of Tisch School of the Arts, where I was getting my graduate degree.  Once he told me he was working on a film about a superhero that can glow in the dark.  He still does not have a full-time job, and he's never really used a computer.  For about eight years and despite his tar-stained teeth, Andy DelBarco remains the most sexy New York City mystery to me.

During the past year, I have had quite a few DelBarco sightings.  I would like to detail them for all of those interested in the whereabouts of Mr. Andy DelBarco.

2/99--corner of St. Marks and Second Avenue--Andy was wearing his old black peacoat, dark Rayban sunglasses, and black pants.  We didn't really speak, but just said, "hello" in passing.

3/99--animation studio--I did not spot Andy, but someone I know ran into him as he was freelancing at an animation production studio making clay models.  This is all the information I have on this sighting.

4/99--Houston and Orchard Street--Andy stopped to chat as I was returning from a bar.  Andy was returning from an art opening in Soho.  It was cold and dark so I don't remember what Andy was wearing.  My companion inquired about how I knew Andy and said that he looked "suspicious."

6/99--Soho--Tony Shifrazi Gallery and Float for the David LaChapelle opening--I was able to spend the entire evening with Andy.  His lady friend (not sure if they were a couple) worked for the gallery and got Andy on the guest list.  He was dressed in a dark suit with blue tinted eyeglasses.  He was especially creeped out when a completely naked transvestite rubbed up againt him.  I found his reaction to be quite surprising.  When I left him, he was standing alone in the corner of the VIP section of the club.  He looked extremely sexy that night and he gave me his cell phone number.

10/99--Virgin Megastore, Union Square--I spotted Andy downstairs in the gay and lesbian fiction section.  He kissed me hello on the cheek.  He was wearing a ratty old blue nylon coat with a fur-trimmed hood and his blue-tinted glasses.  He was carrying his cell phone.  He pointed to his cell phone and told me that I needed to give him a call.

11/99--Telephone conversation--I called Andy to make plans.  He was booked for that week.  He asked me what I have been up to so I told him that I was creating a web page featuring him.  He didn't believe me and thought that I was joking.  I was supposed to call him back to meet for a drink, but I am too nervous.

2/01--After a long time, I finally ran into Andy at the Sunrise Japanese foodmarket. We were the only two non-Japanese people in the store. He seemed glad to see me. He said he just goes through the aisles and picks up the most unrecognizable food items and then goes home to see what they taste like. He looks exactly the same.
