| So, what's the significance of this game? Well, flashback to late '97. Ole Miss has just proven the "experts" wrong by overcoming 2 years of probation (which happened to have the most serious consequences in NCAA history except for SMU's death penalty). In the '97 season, Ole Miss beat then numer 8 LSU, and won the Egg Bowl in nailbiting fasion. This game showed how far Tommy Tuberville had brought this young team, and showed what happens when a team, not exactly overflowing with starpower, plays together as a TEAM. Furthermore, this game was a sort of "changing of the guard" as John Avery graduated, and Deuce gave fans a sign of things to come. |
