Doctrinal Statement

Crossroads International Fellowship

Crossroads is an “interdenominational” congregation, in that the members come from numerous different church traditions and denominational backgrounds. We therefore seek to emphasize the essentials of the historic Christian faith, centering on the person of Jesus Christ, our crucified, risen, and glorified Saviour and Lord. Thus we affirm the creed of many Christian bodies: “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, freedom; in all things, love.” The following statements, based on the Scripture, shall be the basis of faith and doctrine at Crossroads International Fellowship.

1.      The Bible is the inspired Word of God (II Tim. 3:16). It is the written record of His supernatural revelation of Himself to man, absolute in its authority, complete and final in its revelation and content. In its original writing, it was inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error.

2.      Because of their own sin, all people are lost, separated from God. They are spiritually dead: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Rom. 3:23).

3.      Salvation is by grace alone, a free gift of God, through faith in our Lord Jesus, who died for our sins, according to the Scriptures (I Cor. 15:3). Salvation cannot be earned (Eph. 2:8-9), and it comes only through Jesus (Acts 4:12). Believers are those who trust in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the only and sufficient means for obtaining forgiveness of their sins (Eph. 1:7) and eternal life with God.

4.      God is One God, who reveals Himself in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is holy, perfect, and eternal. He is the Creator and ultimate source of all that exists.

5.      Jesus, God’s Son, was born of a virgin (Matt. 1:23). He is both fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life (Heb. 4:15), died on a cross, and was buried. Jesus literally and physically rose from the dead and ascended to heaven.

6.      The Scriptures declare the deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, Who indwells, guides, empowers, and sanctifies believers. Christians, born of the Spirit, are to live a new life in the power of the Spirit (Gal. 5:15-25; Col. 2:6). The Christian’s responsibility and normal attitude to life is to obey God (Rom. 6:13) and trust in Him.

7.      Christian living includes Christian service, evangelism, and declaring the Gospel to the farthest reaches of the earth (Mt. 28:18-20). Prayer plays a central role in Christian life and service.

8.      The true Christian Church is the body of Christ. It is comprised of all true believers, regardless of denomination, nationality, or ethnicity. Jesus left two sacraments for His Church: baptism (Matt. 28:19) and Communion (I Cor. 12:23-24). While we recognize that they do not generate salvation, we as believers perpetuate these practices because He commanded us to do so.

9.      Jesus Christ will literally come to earth a second time (Heb. 9:28). He will return personally (I Thes. 4:16), bodily (Col. 2:9), and visibly (Mt. 26:64). His coming will precede the age of universal peace and righteousness. There will be a resurrection of all people, the believers to eternal life, and the lost to “the resurrection of judgment” (Jn. 5:28-29). Hell is a real place, and real people who are not saved will spend eternity there (Rev. 20:15). Heaven is a real place, too, and those who know salvation by grace through faith will spend eternity there with God.
