In 1994, Hobbes served on a peacekeeping mission in Sarajevo, Bosnia, along side fellow soldier Lt. Mel Waters. In an act of extreme courage, Hobbes protected Waters from an arial bombing, saving his friend's life and earning a military commendation. ---In 1999, Hobbes was preparing to retire from military service and move with his fiancé, Sophie Green, to California. At that time, he was called on one final mission; to play a Defense Department project codenamed Harsh Realm, a virtual reality war simulation designed to train soldiers. ---Now a prisoner of Harsh Realm, Hobbes is on the run with another soldier and a mute healer, set on accomplishing his mission in order to return home to his fiancé. |

Pinocchio was once a celebrated soldier in the United States Army, fighting brilliantly along side Lt. John Cabot in the 1991 Gulf War. But when the conflict in Yugoslavia cost him his left leg and half of his face, he volunteered to play Harsh Realm as a way of earning back the honor that he felt had been so violently taken from him. ---Formerly a high-ranking member of the Republican Guard, Pinocchio has since deserted Santiago's rule, going on the run along side a mysterious mute healer. ---At one time so blinded by his loyalty to Santiago that he executed his own parents, Pinocchio is now haunted by his transgressions, desperately seeking redemption from a past he cannot escape. |

Once a member of The Sisterhood -- a group of women with a mysterious ability to heal -- Florence was shunned for taking up arms in the fight against Santiago. ---Little is known of Florence's past, primarily because she does not speak. She appears to be the daughter of a Guardian named Ruby who once helped Pinocchio in his fight to overcome his past demons. She first met Pinocchio while he was still a member of the Republican Guard, healing a wound he suffered while rounding up prisoners-of-war after the seige of a New Jersey town. ---Quick with a punch and deadly with a gun, Florence can sense danger and is always ready to go into action when her ability is needed. It is yet unclear whether she is a Virtual Character or a soldier sent from the Real World. |

Once a member of the United States Army, Lt. Waters served along side Hobbes in the 1994 Sarajevo conflict. He suffered a gunshot wound there and was rescued from an arial bombing by his friend. ---Sent into Harsh Realm before his compatriot, Waters abandoned his objective when he realized that the game was a farce. He quickly ascended the ranks of the Republican Guard and now serves on Santiago's Advisory Council. ---It is clear that he and Inga Fossa have ulterior plans of their own for Harsh Realm which do not include General Santiago. When it was believed that Santiago had been killed, Inga urged Waters to take command of the Republican Guard. |

Once the most decorated war hero to serve in Southeast Asia, Sgr. Mjr. Omar Santiago entered Harsh Realm and defeated the reigning Lord of the Realm to become the game's high scorer. ---Soon after, however, he hijacked the system, creating his own utopia, fashioned after his interprations of what he believed to be the vision of America's Founding Fathers. ---With powerful allies in the Real World including Inga Fossa, a member of the Harsh Realm selection committee, Santiago keeps his location there shrouded in mystery. He is bent on bringing to fruition his Final Solution, a plan to destroy and dominate the Real World so that Harsh Realm is all that remains. |

This enigmatic vixen is playing all sides of the conflict, serving simultaneously on the Harsh Realm selection committee in the Real World, as well as on Santiago's Advisory Council within the Realm. ---She also has her own ulterior plans for Harsh Realm which she shares with Lt. Mel Waters. It also appears that she once held these plans with Mike Pinocchio, before he deserted the Republican Guard. ---Her intentions are not yet clear, but she seems for the moment to be helping Hobbes. In the Real World, she informs Hobbes' fiancé, Sophie, that her husband-to-be is not dead as the Army would have her believe. In Harsh Realm, she brings word to Hobbes that his beloved is now pregnant with their child. |

Fiancé to Thomas Hobbes, Sophie was fed disinformation by the Army when her husband-to-be was plugged into Harsh Realm. The US government would have her believe he was killed on a classified mission, the details of which cannot be devulged. ---Warned by Inga Fossa that she was accepting a lie as a truth, Sophie began the search for information leading to the truth about her fiancé's fate. Eventually, she came into contact with a Mrs. Cabot, wife of Lt. John Cabot, who had served along side Lt. Pinocchio in the 1991 Gulf War. Her husband too has since disappeared, pronounced dead by the military. ---Having comforted Tom's mother Katherine in her final days with cancer, she has since given birth to hers and her fiancé's daughter, Faith. She has two sisters, Rebecca and Sarah Green, as well as a brother, Samuel Green. She is the daughter of Anne Murray and Richard Green. |
