What is in the midst of a cloud? To know it, one should go and look. But it is not easy, for in a cloud, one may get lost, and even if going straight ahead should be sufficient to get out of it, one is never assured of having reached the center. For... In the heart of a cloud, there still is cloud. |
Welcome to the Welgon Age |
1 |
A little white cloud in a blue sky, far below. "One only has to fall; it cannot be missed," said Sarkon the Prophet. "It even is impossible to avoid it: the gravity is too powerful," admitted General Kwar the Dictator. "Aren't we going to rebound on it?" asked cookie the harlequin. "But why do you absolutely want to go down into this cloud?" raged Dr. Qworm the Mad Scientist. "What do you hope to find there?" "In this cloud, there is a chunk of universal knowledge," Sarkon prophesied solemnly. "In this cloud, I feel an unknown power, a force so powerful that it can create entire worlds," rumbled Kwar, his fist - huge - clenched. cookie just smiled. "Whatever - I let you down gladly!" called Dr. Qworm. "And don't count on me to catch you up!" "It won't be necessary," assured Sarkon, who considered himself ascetic enough and accustomed to move in the vaporous mists of the spiritual paths to be confident in his capacity of reascending without difficulty. "Gravity may well be strong, but it won't be a match against my formidable power when I decide to come back!" thundered General Kwar. And indeed, he was so massive that nothing seemed capable of resisting him - not even gravity! cookie didn't need to reassure himself on this matter. His problem was more to succeed in falling! He was so light that he often found himself floating a few inches above the ground when he wasn't careful. Moreover, he almost never had a heavy hand or heart, which wouldn't make his fall easier. "If at least it was radioactive!... But no, only light water vapor!" lamented Dr. Qworm. After these words, Sarkon, Kwar and cookie plunged down into the sky below them. Dr. Qworm watched them fall away, a larger and larger grin on the lips. He was the one and only ruler of the Welgon Age at last!... He never saw the rock of which a tiny bit peeked out of the ground and loomed, immense, on his doom, and on which he stumbled when he turned around. He lost the little equilibrium he still had left, toppled to the wrong side, and fell like a stone. If you want to follow Sarkon the Prophet, go to 3. General Kwar the Dictator will lead you to 9. If you'd rather stay with cookie the harlequin, leave to 6. Finally, choosing to see the fall of Dr. Qworm the Mad Scientist will send you to 5. |
