At the Franz Josef glacier there are many leisure facilities. These include:
Cycling - there are many cycle routes around the Franz Josef glacier and the southern alps. There is a ten day cycling holiday thru the southern alps for $1,520, with " down under answers travel."

Heli-skiing - this involves flying up in a chopper and skiing back down. Heli-skiing can offer access to high up the mountain, which otherwise would not be reached. High up the mountain there are better skiing conditions and it is less busy which all makes for a more enjoyable holiday.
For a one run Heli-lift it costs just $100.
The runs offered are about 1000metres longer than otherwise offered. |

Kayaking - you can go kayaking in glistening glacial bays and touch the surrounding icebergs. You can hear avalanches thundering off surrounding mountains from a safe distance. Truly an amazing experience. |

Climbing - spectacular views are awarded to the slightly adventurous. Climbing with guides is a safe way to discover the glaciated area first hand.
To get up the mounatin you could ride in a helicopter or you could fly in a plane with landing skis attached so it can land in the snow.
