Tragedy has never been a stranger to Oksana. Orphaned at the age of 13, she has always relied on her skating to get her through. After bursting on the skating scene in the 1993 World Championships, she later overcame more obstacles winning the 1994 Olympic gold medal. She seemed on top of the world. After she turned professional, however, she seemed to self destruct. Suffering injurys and finally ending up in a car accident and charged with a DUI.
It seems that Oksana has finally reached the light at the end of her tunnal. Entering alcohol rehab, her fans hope that she has finally been able to overcome her problems and move on with her life. She has never had it easy, she has proved herself to indeed be a survivor.
