EAST/WEST DIVIDE

The differences between people born and raised in the West and in the East are so pronounced that at times you are convinced that the forty-ninth parallel should be drawn at the Manitoba-Saskatchewan divide.

Differences (that drive you up the wall-I'm the Easterner in my relationship)

Easterners write out lists to remember things; Westerners just remember what they remember, and everything else is obviously irrelevant and unimportant (you really can't disagree there).

This aspect is similar to the idea that Westerner just lay things down, whereas Easterners are quite cognizant of when they lay something down. What this leads to, ironically, is that approximately 90% of the time Westerners find what they have laid down vs. 100% by the Easterner (Margaret is currently grabbing at the keyboard-she argues the Eastern figure). But the Westerner is able to live with those odds (really they aren't that bad odds)

Westerners can be interrupted in a conversation and later either resume the conversation or not (because they will get back to it at some time, if important). Whereas an Easterner, if the one that is interrupted, will go back to the room/area where the conversation was ensuing and hope to continue it (usually to find the Westerner has long since left to carry on with something else). Or if the Westerner is the one who has to leave the conversation, the Easterner will wait, sometimes forever, for the Westerner to come back.

Haunted House Episode:
A recent event illuminates the differences. We just moved into our house to find out the house is haunted (slamming doors, footsteps, moans etc., you know your garden-variety ghostlike behaviours.). Of course Margaret, being the Westerner had to convince me that this was a benevolent, rather than evil spirit (ironically the house does have a really good feeling).

Anyway, the difference lies in the fact that as Easterners, upon first recognition of a presence we would race out of the house and book into a hotel room; but oh no, not us, we are sleeping here waiting for the psychics to come (apparently they're booked for another week). That's the Western influence for you! In summary, it could be suggested that the differences lie in differing perspectives -- whether one views the world from a state of preparedness or from an "as needed" basis -- the pursuit of economic prosperity versus the pursuit of leisure --

CANDY BEEFs/CONCERNS:

The hot pink smarties are a much cheaper version of the light pink ones, so WATCH OUT!!!!!!

Cherry as opposed to RED licorice (don't buy into anyone flogging the cherry version!)
