W.I.L.L. Women: Support Student Protest, Question Ethics of Board & Administration

To: Students, Faculty, Administration and Board of Trustees of Wells College

Date: October 7, 2004

On this date the Women In Lifelong Learning (W.I.L.L.) organization of Wells College met. The following statement is a reflection of the feelings and concerns expressed at this meeting.

W.I.L.L. as designated by Wells College are non-traditional students who are so designated because of age, our membership in a family with a spouse and/or children, or because of our military service. We are 43 members of the Wells College community. With us we bring to campus our years of experiences in life and the work force. Ourexperiences at Wells College allow us to learn with our younger traditional age students; lessons that we consider immeasurable.

It was the decision of the W.I.L.L. organization on October 7, 2004 that W.I.L.L. supports the activities of the Wells College student's and their list of demands to bring accountability to the campus of Wells College from the Administration and the Trustees of Wells College concerning the co-ed issue. We support the student's demands.

In the 2004-2005 Wells College Catalogue it states, " That Wells College students are under community obligation and pledge not to cheat, steal, deceive or conceal the conduct of their collegiate life as defined or encompassed by the Collegiate Rules." W.I.L.L. goes on record questioning the behavior of the Board of Trustees and the Administration of Wells College and additionally questions why they choose to operate under a different code of ethics.

It is our desire that the single sex education we sought when we applied and were accepted as students at Wells College is restored and that it be further developed for the continuing benefit of the women of Wells College.
