Halloween -Samhain
Halloween and it's traditions are not as feared as they once were, although many people would prefer to see an end to halloween, because of the tricks that are played on them by the neighbourhood kids!!  I have found the best way to combat that is to join them, and embrace the halloween spirit.
A few sweets and home-made decorations, a fake scream when you open the door to find a mixture of little devils, witches and ghouls there, with menacing smiles, always goes a long way.
The little ones and their parents have made an effort so it doesnt hurt for the rest of us to do the same, and you never know you might actually enjoy it!!!

SAMHAIN - generally pronounced 'sa-ween.'  It may seem odd, but Samhain was the Celtic New Year and the start of Winter, the fact that the leaves are dying on the tree's and the winter frosts are turning the landscape into a harsh, barren land may seem a strange time to welcome a new year, but too the Celts this was the perfect time to create new beginnings when facing the end of a harvest year.
The most fragile phase of existance is often the initial one.  And so at this time of dying we are aware that a new life trembles - somewhere- under the frost brittle earth.  We also know when outer life decays, the inner life of the spirit is stronger.
