Ellenby Review

I’d been a fan of Wendy’s since I’d seen her on the 2002 tour of Planet so when I read that she was performing with the band Ellenby I knew I had to go and see her.

It was only a couple of stops on the tube to the Chapel Bar in Islington and when I walked in the bar was much smaller than I would have imagined.

I saw the band setting up and noticed that Jane Milligan was there as well, when the band started warming up people started taking notice and I saw people tapping their fingers on the tables and also tapping their feet.

Ellenby are a two piece band made up of Ben Goddard and Liz Poulter, they are a fantastic duo and Liz takes lead vocals and she is an amazing singer with a truly amazing voice.

Wendy plays the guitar and performs vocals with the band and she is a great guitarist – I’d loved Wendy’s guitar playing during Planet and it was great to see her playing again. For those of you who are interested, Jane was keyboards and vocals and was as good as I remembered from Planet.

Seeing Ellenby was fantastic and a great night out. Little did I know when I went to the gig that I would see Wendy and Ben performing together just a few weeks later at the Queen’s Theatre gala.

If you ever get the chance then go and see Ellenby as it’s a great night out.
