Gender Stereotypes in Taiwanese TV Commercials -

Kirin Beer

Synopsis:

" Nowadays, we respect sexual equality¡Fwomen become independent and have their own thoughts¡Amost behavior is opened to both men and women¡CRecently¡Awe have seen an advertisement of KIRIN beer, it take a female singer to promote its product. KIRIN company notices the trend of Taiwan society; the public starts to get rid of their stereotype mentality about gender roles - Chinese people have stereotype thinking towards drinking just like women smoke wont be regarded as a good behavior as well¡C


We choose beer to be our presentation topic because our society has strong stereotype beliefs on women's drinking. KIRIN beer, on the other hand, saw the new value of Taiwan society. It invited a female singer to endorse their proeduct in order to transmit a new ideal about women to the audience¡CIt is different from other alcoholic beverages which still use male endorsers to promote their products¡C "
