Chapter 26
Lucinda was sitting by her new office staring at the computer screen. Soon it was going to be all taken care of. Why would anyone suspect the CEO of Forrester Creations moving some money from the Paris-office to Los Angeles? Money-transfers were done all the time, right? But this sum was not really going to Forresterīs headaccount in Los Angeles, but rather to a LForrester account. She was seconds away from having all the money she needed to pay for Brookeīs half of the company with the companyīs own money. A perfect plan.
Eric was outside the Forrester mansion trying to figure out how the shooting happened, which the new information he had gotten. He knew the property very well, so where would the best place to get in and out without having to go through the main gate? Eric looked around the poolarea and his eyes wandered to the bushes separating their property from the neighbours. He looked more closely and headed over there. He told himself this could probably be it. The neighbours werenīt home the evening of the shooting, so the shooter could move easily on their property. And it wasnīt a far distance. It was just perfect. A smaller person could definitely manage it. A woman. Eric remembered how Brooke told him Meganīs killer was a woman. Eric decided to play with the thought of the shooter using that way in and out of their property for now. He went back to the pool. He knew where Tim Cameron had been standing when he was shot. He knew where the shooter had stood when he or she fired the gun. Eric held up his hands as though they formed a gun, fired an air-shot and went to the spot where Stephanie said she had found the gun. From that spot was a clear way to the bushes. It would take approximately 4-5 seconds to run from where he was standing to the bushes and on to the neighbourīs property. The pieces was starting to fall in their places. But how was he going to be able to prove it? More importantly, was it really possible? Eric picked up his cellphone to call for some back-up.
Brooke arrived home. Nick still hadnīt gotten back from his trip and she didnīt have anything more to do at the office for the day. She laid down on the sofa to relax a little from the stressful day. She couldnīt get Megan off her mind. Her friend was dead. Brooke wiped a tear from her cheek when the phone rang.
"Brooke Logan"
"Brooke, hi. Itīs Lucinda. I was wondering if we could meet later today. I have the money now for the company"
"Yes, of course. Iīll call my lawyer and we can have this settled by the end of the day" Brooke said relieved. She wanted as far away from Forrester Creations as she could get.
Stephanie was sitting in her jailcell freezing. The temperature in the cell wasnīt particularly cold, but the atmosphere was icecold, and it made her shiver. She kept thinking of the nutcases she was trapped in there with. The last thing she wanted was to deal with Sheila. Stephanie hoped the guards would keep Sheila far away from her after their big confrontation.
Suddenly she heard a familiar voice from afar. She got up from her bed and went to the bars of her cell.
"Stephanie" a voice said, coming closer.
"Eric!" Stephanie said and lightened up. Soon she saw Eric and her lawyer coming towards her.
"My god, Eric! What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I have some wonderful news for you" Eric told her.
"What?"
"We think we can get you out of here, soon" Eric told her. Stephanie was stunned. She looked at Russell.
"We have a theory on what really happened, and itīs being checked over by the crime scene investigators as we speak" Russell told her.
"What theory?" Stephanie wanted to know.
"Iīll give you the details later, but right now, letīs just concentrate to have you freed from this hell" Eric told her.
"Thank you Eric! Thank you, you saved my life. I love you so much!" Stephanie said.
"I love you too" Eric said and smiled at her. He placed his hands ontop of hers, which was holding onto the bars. They looked at each other for a long moment before Eric leaned in to kiss her.
Soon, a security guard and two policeofficers came their way. The guard opened the door to her cell.
"Youīre free to leave" one of the officers told her.
"I am?" Stephanie asked.
"The charges against you have been dropped" the other one filled in.
"Oh thank god!!!!" Stephanie said and hugged Eric, both excited about the news.
"Dinner!"
"What?" Stephanie asked Eric confused.
"Dinner!" the guardīs voice said again. Stephanie snapped out of her daydream and opened her eyes. She realizes she was back in her cell. Eric wasnīt there. And her hell continued. She got up from her bed and followed the other inmates to have dinner.
Felicia, Kristen, Russell Baxter and Pam joined Eric by the pool of the Forrester mansion. Eric informed them of what he was thinking could have happened the evening of the murder. He wanted to roleplay the scene to see if his theory was indeed possible. He handed out parts of each one of them. Felicia was going to play the shooter. Russell was going to play Tim Cameron. Pam was going to play Shannon and Rick at the guesthouse, and Kristen got to play Thorne inside the room where Thorne has been laying. And Eric was going to play Stephanie. He told them the instructions on what they needed to do, and they got started replaying the scene of the murder. Felicia went to the bushes, Kristen went inside to where Thorne had been and opened the window like it had been opened that night, Russell stayed out by the pool and Pam went into the bathroom of the guesthouse. Eric watched the scene as he told Felicia to begin the scene. Russell realized he couldnīt be standing facing Feliciaīs direction as she sneaked by him into the house. He looked away and noticed a door. He broke the scene and asked where the door leads to. Eric explained itīs a room with supplies, but it also leads into the house. They guessed that Tim may have been inside there while the shooter sneaked by the poolarea. Russell pretended to be in there while they began the scene again. Felicia quickly sneaked by the pool and entered the frontdoor of the mansion. Eric followed her. Felicia ran up and down the stairs to get the time it took for the shooter to go up and get the gun from Stephanieīs nightstand. Then she quickly headed out to the poolside again. Eric went into his car, pretending to be Stephanie returning home that evening. He backed out the car to the gate to see if he could spot anything happening at the pool, but he couldnīt get any clear shot from the car no matter how much he tried. Meanwhile, Felicia got in position, said some quick words to Russell, and aimed her finger-gun at Russell and pulled the trigger. Russell pretended to be shot, but decided not to dive into the pool. Felicia made a "bang-sound", loud enough so that Pam in the guesthouse could hear it. Pam started to count down 1 minute & 15 seconds. Felicia ran to the spot where Stephanie found the gun, she pretended to put down the gun and runs off to the bushes again. She took her cellphone and called Eric, as a sign that he could get in action. Eric drove his car up to where Stephanie usually parks her car. He got out and headed towards the pool. He pretended to pick up a gun, and continued to the pool. Russell observed the scene as Eric kneeled beside the pool. It was time for Pam to show up by the window of the guesthouse, and after a few short seconds of waiting, she did.
Everything worked. Kristen joined them by the pool and told them she had overheard just about everything that Thorne said he did.
"What do you think?" Eric asked Russell for his expert opinion.
"I think you may be on to something very close to the truth" Russell said and went over the scene again in his head. All the details seemed to click.
"Then only one big questionmark needs itīs answer" Felicia said.
"Who did Felicia just imitate?" Kristen filled in.
"Thatīs the million dollar question" Eric agreed.
"Who would know all these details such as where the gun was, and how to get in on the property without passing the gate?" Russell asked.
"And who wanted Tim Cameron dead?" Kristen asked.
"Or maybe we should rather ask, who wants Stephanie in jail?" Eric suggested.
"I think that is the question we should ask instead. I have dug into Tim Cameronīs past and I havenīt come up with any person who wanted to harm him that also had the opportunity to kill him here. I think Tim Cameron was just a chesspiece that could be sacrificed. The goal was to frame someone for murder. And it doesnīt even have to be Stephanie that was the target" Russell said.
"You think the shooter intended to frame someone else?" Felicia asked.
"Itīs a possibility that we canīt overlook" Russell replied.
"Letīs assume the shooter wanted to frame one of us who lives here. What would they gain from it?" Eric asked.
"The only logical explaination I can think of is a personal revenge on the family or someone in our family. And I can only think of Sheila or Morgan" Kristen said.
"That is what comes to my mind too" Felicia agreed.
"But we know it wasnīt anyone of them" Eric stated.
"Unless they had someone working for them" Russell suggested.
"A sidekick?" Felicia asked.
"Why not? Morgan had Tim Reid. Sheila had Mike Gutherie" Eric said.
"They are cleared as well" Russell stated.
"A new sidekick" Felicia said.
"Have you been in contact with someone you could suspect working with Sheila or Morgan?" Russell asked and the family spent a few seconds thinking back.
"I canīt think of anyone suspect" Kristen said.
"What about that guy who Brooke thought tried to kill her?" Felicia asked.
"Edmund Kelly? No, Iīve checked him too" Russell said.
"How many people did you check?" Felicia asked, not really interested. Rather flirtatious. Russell smiled. Eric took notice.
"I think we should sleep on it" Kristen said.
"Yes, thank you so much for coming over and helping" Eric told Russell and shook his hand. Russell nodded and headed for his car. Felicia followed him. Eric followed them with his eyes which Kristen noticed.
"Is something starting to happen with Felicia and Mr Baxter?" Kristen wondered.
"Something might" Eric said. They walked back into the house to continue the speculations.
Lucinda and Brooke were at Forrester with Connor Davis and Lucindaīs lawyer Hollister McGraw to do the official transover of the company. Lucinda had enough money now from her account to pay for the entire company, but she knew this transaction had to happen quickly. She wasnīt in the clear yet. Connor looked over a file concerning the case as Brooke and Lucinda was standing talking in the other corner of Brookeīs former office. Brooke wanted to know how the first day went and Lucinda said itīs a whole lot new to learn, but she is willing to work day and night for a few weeks to get the hang of everything. Brooke laughed and said it was that way for her too when she first took over the company, but assured Lucinda that it could be done and that if she has questions she could always ask one of the Forresters or call Brooke. But Brooke joked that she wonīt give Lucinda much ideas, because they were now competitors. They laughed together casually. Connor and Hollister were sealing the deal, and Brooke got a copy of the money-transfer to her account. She was pleased and shook Lucindaīs hand.
"You are now the majority stockholder of Forrester Creations. Let me be the first one to congratulate you" Brooke said.
"Thank you!" Lucinda replied with a wide loving smile.
Bridget returned home with a suitcase. Rick got up from the sofa to greet her.
"Youīre moving back home?" he asked surprised.
"Yeah, just for a little while though. I will start looking for a house of my own soon" Bridget said.
"Did something happen with you and CJ?" Rick wondered concerned.
"We broke up" Bridget said, but as the word came out of her mind, she realized they didnīt hurt as much as she thought they would when she said them for the first time.
"Iīm sorry" Rick said honestly.
"Howīs Shannon?" Bridget asked to change the subject.
"Iīd rather want to know WHERE is Shannon" Rick admitted.
"Sheīll turn up sooner or later" Bridget said.
"I hope so, I am getting a bit worried. You know, after what happened with Tim Cameron and Megan".
"It is starting to creep me out. What if this family is a target?" Bridget asked.
"A target? I never looked at it like that" Rick said and looked like his mind drifted far away.
"Rick? What is it?" Bridget asked.
"I was just thinking of Amber. She called earlier"
"Where is she?"
"She wouldnīt say. And I am worried. Amberīs gotten herself in enough trouble for me to recoginze when something has happened, and I think sheīs in trouble now".
"What makes you think that?"
"The way she sounded on the phone. She sounded scared to come back here. Almost as though she feared for her life" Rick said and Bridget looked stunned.
"Did someone threaten her?"
"I donīt know. She refused to say much, only that I should take care of Eric. I donīt know when she is planning on returning, IF sheīs planning on returning at all" Rick said.
"I hope she calls again" Bridget said.
"Yeah, I hope so too. I get the feeling she needs my help".
Eric had gone back to Forrester to finish on a design that needed to get in production the following day. When he finished, he sent it down to the sowing room and continued on the list he was working on. After a few minutes, he got called down to the sowing room for some questions regarding his design. Lucinda knocked at his officedoor and peaked inside. No one was there so she decided to go in and leave a document on Ericīs desk. She saw the list Eric had been working on and picked it up. It was filled with names and the headline was "possible suspects". Most names at the top were crossed over, names such as Ridge, Thorne, Kristen, Felicia, Rick, Bridget, Pam and Shannon. Below them were the names of Morgan and Sheila, both with questionmarks behind them. And the rest of the list were of people working at Forrester and other people around the Forresterfamily. Lucinda didnīt know all the people listed, but she could find her own name on the list, not crossed over. Eric returned to the office and found Lucinda standing with his list in her hands. He mades himself noticed. Lucinda looked up at him.
"Oh, hi. I was just leaving this document for you here" she said as she put down the list on the desk again.
"Okay" Eric said and went to his desk.
"I hope you donīt mind me looking at this list??" she asked.
"No, itīs fine" Eric assured.
"What is it for?" she wondered.
"Iīm trying to figure out who could have killed Tim Cameron and Megan" Eric revealed.
"Oh! So youīre crossing off the people you know couldnīt have killed them..." Lucinda said.
"Yes" Eric admitted.
"Well, I will leave you to go back to do that" she said and smiled politely.
Eric sat down in his chair and continued on with his list. He looked at all the names he had so far and noticed Lucindaīs name. He looked up at the door which she had closed behind her when she left, and he wondered if she could have had anything to do with the murders. She had the opportunity to kill Megan, she was a woman which matched Brookeīs description. But she had never been at the Forrester mansion before and couldnīt possibly find her way around there so easily and she didnīt seem like a person who had killed anyone recently. But still, Eric couldnīt find it in him to cross her name off the list yet.
Lucinda returned to her office and flashed back to the list she had just seen. She realized her name was on it simply because she worked at Forrester, but she didnīt feel quite comfortable having realized she was a suspect and that Eric was so determinded to find the real killer. She had to lay low for some time now and not appear suspicious in any way. And Sheila and Morgan had seemed to be far more interesting options for Eric than Lucinda.
Eric was still looking over his list when his phone rang. He picked up. It was a collegue from the Paris office wanting to know what the big rush for the money-transfer was all about. Eric wondered what he was talking about and the man said in his French accent that Brooke had transfered a large sum of money from Forresterīs Paris-account to the Los Angeles account. Eric told him he had to ask Brooke about that because he didnīt know anything about it. They hung up and Eric wondered why Brooke would make such a big transfer. He decided to ask her the next day. He picked up his list, turned off the lights in the office and headed back to the Forrester mansion.
The next day, Stephanie and some other inmates was lead to the showers. Stephanie hated this part because it felt so humiliating to shower together with other women who kept staring at her. It felt like such an intrution on her privacy and she couldnīt relax. Two women walked up next to her, one on each side as the three women showered.
"I heard you had problems with the dictator" one of them said.
"Youīre not alone" the other said.
"You donīt belong in her gang" the first one said, Stephanie kept quiet.
"You should come with us instead"
"Weīll treat you with respect"
"Youīd never have to be afraid again"
"Iīm not afraid" Stephanie finally said.
"Youīre tough. We like that"
"Thatīs why you should join our group. We donīt socialize with them and they keep their distance from us"
"Youīll join us and your life here at this hellhole will be a piece of cake"
"How do I know I can trust you?" Stephanie asked.
"You donīt. You will just have to trust"
"Trust is very important to us"
"Why do you want me?" Stephanie asked.
"Youīre tough, youīre powerful and you donīt belong with the gang youīre with now. I was once with them and I wouldnīt wish them on anyone".
Stephanie realized she had a point. The evil eyes of the "dictator" was one thing she could live without. Her skin crawled everytime she looked into those eyes. So Stephanie accepted their offer to join them. They welcomed her to them.
"Only one thing is missing. One thing that will protect you from the evil".
"What?" Stephanie asked sceptical.
"Our logo" one of them said and grabbed Stephanieīs arm. The other one held on to Stephanie from behind and told her to trust them. The woman infront of her took something sharp of metal, looking like a metalspring from a bed. The woman behind her told her to breathe in, prepare for some pain and be quiet. Stephanie looked surprised, but couldnīt take her arm back from the woman before her who was very strong. She took the piece of metal and tatooed something on Stephanieīs arm. She could feel the pain and tried her best to hold up. Soon her blood came running down her arm. She tries to pull back her arm, but couldnīt free herself. The blood got mixed up with the water from the shower. The woman behind her had turned on cold water, which Stephanie was now thankful for, since the cold water numbed some of the pain.
"There you go" the woman before her said and let go of Stephanieīs arm.
"Here, hold it under the shower" the woman behind her said and held Stephanieīs arm under the pouring cold water. Stephanie tended to the wound on her arm. It was stinging pretty badly, but the cold water helped a lot. But she was starting to get very cold. She held out for a few more seconds before she turned on warmer water.
"Great, now Iīll probably get an infection and a cold...." Stephanie thought to herself.
"Youīre now one of us"
"And that logo will protect you. Youīll see" the woman in front of her said. They left Stephanie alone and went to dry themselves. Stephanie tended to her wound once more. The blood had stopped running down, but the bleeding hadnīt stopped completely yet. She covered the wound with her hand and wished once more she could get out of this place.
Eric picked up the phone and dialled a number.
"Brooke Logan"
"Brooke, itīs Eric. I got a call yesterday from the Paris-office, concerning the money-transfer from Paris to LA. What was the reason behind the transfer?" Eric asked.
"I wouldnīt know anything about that" Brooke told him in return.
"But you made the transfer" Eric told her.
"No, I didnīt. But ask Lucinda Freeman. As of today, she is both CEO and majority stockholder of Forrester Creations" Brooke said and hung up the phone. Eric looked shocked.
"Who was that?" Nick asked Brooke as he had came back from his trip and come right over to see Brooke.
"Eric. I informed him that Lucinda is now in charge of Forrester" Brooke said and smiled as she walked over to Nick and they shared a kiss.
"Itīs official now?" he asked.
"I donīt think the press knows yet, but itīs just a matter of time now".
"Guess what else is official?" he asked.
"Could it be... your divorce?" Brooke wondered with a grin.
"It could be. You are now looking at a very single man" Nick said.
"Single? I hope that will soon change" Brooke teased and they kissed.
Stephanie and her fellow inmates were having lunch. The "dictator" signaled for her to come over to her place at their table. Stephanie couldnīt see her new friends, so she went over there. She sat down and soon, the "dictator" noticed the wound on Stephanieīs arm.
"What happened to you?" she wondered and took a closer look. The wound was still fresh and it was hard to see what had been scraped down on her flesh, but soon she realized just what it was. The "dictator" looked up at Stephanie as though she had committed a deathsin.
"Leave!" she ordered Stephanie, who looked confused. She didnīt get up.
"Whatīs the matter with you? Are you deaf? I said leave, you are not welcomed to this table ever again" she told Stephanie in a vicious tone. Her cold eyes were glaring at Stephanie. Stephanie realized she better leave before she makes a new enemy, if she hadnīt already, and got up and left the table. She went to another table and sat down as she still couldnīt find her new friends. She started eating her lunch, but quickly noticed that the women at her table looked strangely at her, as though they wished she had sat down somewhere else. Stephanie started wondering what she had gotten herself into now.
Eric picked up the phone, but put it down again. He reached for his cellphone instead and headed out to the elevator at Forrester Creations. He got on the elevator and called upp Russell Baxter.
"Russell, hi. Eric Forrester here"
"Eric, do you have any news for me?"
"I want to ask you for a favor. Could you arrange a complete background-search on a Ms Lucinda Freeman?"
"Her name sounds familiar, who is she?" Russell wondered.
"The new CEO of Forrester Creations, and possibly a suspect"
"You think she killed Tim Cameron?" Russell wondered.
"No... Iīm not sure... But there is something about her. I want to know everything about her, her past, her possible connection to us and how she can afford bying Brookeīs stocks in this company".
