Decisions |
Problem: - In designing the site a decision had to be made in whether to utilize cascading style sheets or java scripts.
Solution: - It was decided that long term and ease of updates to the site to be of utmost importance, therefore it was decided to keep the web site as simple and easy to update as possible.
Problem: - Decision needed on where to host the web site. The two possibilities are to either to pay for IT to support the infrastructure or utilize our own file servers to host the web site.
Solution: - It was decided to utilize our file servers for now and if necessary we could move the web site to IT. Our major concerns were with justifying the costs involved at this time.

Learning |
1) What helpful feedback did you get in the class (instructor, classmates) and outside the class (user, stakeholder, beneficiary, mentor, expert advisor, others)? What did you learn from this feedback?
- In seeking feedback I have learned that in many cases receiving a fresh set of eyes on a project can sometimes reveal obvious issues that one may be overlooking. The feedback received by my stakeholder has helped to streamline the data and make the web site much easier to use.
2) What resources did you use this week (e.g., people, money, equipment, systems, or software)? Did you add new resources? What was your learning?
This week the resources that I used were people, the Internet, my workstation, Microsoft Front Page and Macromedia Dream Weaver. My main learning for this week was from people. I have learned that what I may think is a clean design or a good choice of colors may have a completely different prospective to others. I should never underestimate the power of feedback.
3) What research did you perform this week that was assisting and/or literature based? What is your findings/learning?
Research Question: - How do I develop a strategy for my web site?
Source: http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol142/website2.htm
Answer/Learning:
The first step in developing a strategy is to identify who the web site target audience will be. The target audience may effect the level of information and even the level of detail that may be necessary for your web site.
The next step is to consider what the expectations of the target audience will be. It is crucial that your website at the very least must meet the minimum expectations of your target audience.
Next, some research should be done to allow the developer to gain some experience from existing projects that may exist already. Utilize the information that has already been established by others with similar projects. Attempt to understand what makes some better than others.
At this stage it is wise to determine a definition of what will consider the project successful or not. You need to have quantifiable and qualitative measures of success to gauge the performance of your website. I prefer to focus on customer satisfaction through feedback and would need to ensure that users are able to effortlessly submit feedback.
4) What did you learn this week in general in producing your project?
In general I learned that note taking is essential. This week I have been very busy and because of this I unintentionally didn't perform the level of note taking that I should have. When attempting to recall all of the details from this week, I found myself struggling to remember the complete high level list of issues. I must not underestimate the power of note taking.
