I can't believe it is time for a new season. I must admit that I don't bid a fond farewell to the last season, just a plain farewell. What an awful season last year was. It was the first time ever that I didn't take at least 75 head of game and the first time since my apprentice season that I didn't catch over a 100 head. This year was a really fun year.

I am training a new Drahthaar to replace Minka. Cleo is definitely harder to handle than Minka was, but he has great prey drive and seems to be fairly smart. His coat is great and his is a fine specimen of the breed. Everyday, I see a little more pointing out of him and he will run a rabbit HARD! All the success we have had is credited to him and Daniel and they simply do well despite my shortcomings as a falconer.

I am flying a male Harris Hawk out of my Crash line. He is the tamest HH I have ever seen and I have been extremely pleased in what I have seen. I carhawked him some, and we could really run up a ridiculous headcount that way. He required only one baggy and to be honest, I could have caught something out the window without a baggy. He was TROUBLE on the local cottontails. He has caught a couple of jacks now and has no fear of them. He is SO tiny to be catching jacks regularly though. He had snagged a couple of Texas bobwhites and has almost caught a couple of pheasants. He is vocal and I hate that, but those are results of some choices I made I guess. I hand fed him when I moved to Texas as I was building facilities for a week and I pulled him for a couple of days at 9 weeks and then pulled him to hawk at 14 weeks. He is really as tame as a dog and I fly him with no jesses, bells or telemetry. We are already over 50 head of game even with my back surgery in November. I am going to sell him and am either going to fly a female(hopefully his sister from the next clutch) or I will try a goshawk for the first time
