Organisation of the Eldritch Legion
Back to the Index

The Legion is split into three distinct divisions; each division has its own command structure although all divisions are answerable to the overall Legion leader the Imperator. The divisions are the Military, the Magi and the Artisans.

The Militar
y
The soldiers of the Legion, fighting in the main as Heavy Infantry, Melnibonean soldiers have in the past marched across many worlds carving out a now legendary empire the likes of which the multiverse has never before seen.

Ranks

Cadet Second Grad
e
The starting rank of all warrior recruits, it is given to all potential recruits while they are vetted to see if they meet the Legions high standards. At this rank high skill levels are not expected and attitude/willingness to listen are the most important qualities. Once Legion officers are happy the recruit is showing the right qualities they will advance to the next rank.

Cadet First Grad
e
A recruit now needs to develop their fighting skills to a level that will enable to uphold the finetradition of the Melniboean Military. Recruits will receive plenty of help from the Legion in developing their fightings skills with one to one tuition and Cadet patrols lead by experienced Legionaries. Once a recruit has reached the required skill levels and has been recommended by an officer of the Legion then they can swear the Legions anicent oath of allegience and become a full member.

Legionary

The Legionaries are the backbone of the Legion and are seen as the architypical Melnibonean. In the main they fight as Heavy Infantry but some are highly skilled archers (though sadly the Melnibonean Bone Bow of legend is no longer available); or Cavalry soldiers fighting from the back of specially bread destriers or other fearsome beasts.

Immuni
s
A Legionary who proves his bravery and skill at arms in the face of the enemy may be on  the recomendation of his commanding officer be promoted to the rank of Immunis. An immunes is spared some of the more tedious jjobs assigned to the Infantry and is given special roles such as forming  part of a guard of honour, delivering vital messages or forming a rear guard on the march. An Immunes main role on the battle field other than to follow orders is to inspire his fellow rankers by example; to always lead from the front, the first on the battlefield and the last to retreat.

Tesserarius
The most experienced members of the rank file are invarably the Tesserarius; they act as sub unit commanders or file leaders in battle and command small patrol units or watch posts in day to day duties. Only those soldiers who have shown skill at arms, a zeal for following orders and a grasp of tactics and leadership can hold this rank.

Optio
The first level of Officer rank, an Optio acts as the second in command of a maniple unit and will often be given charge of forward defensive posts or offensive patrol units. Optio rank is only given by senior officers in the military or the Imperator himself. The optios main duty is enssure his superiors orders are followed to the letter and ensuring discipline is enforced at all times.

Centurion
The commander of a full  Legion Chort, this rank is as high as most officers progress or even aspire too. Centurions are feared veteran warriors who have seen most things there are too see on the battlefield. They often command detached forces on seperate missions away from the Legions main body or command impressive forts in there own right. They have the power to promote/demote rankers and enforce all parts of Melniboean military law without mercy if they deem it right. They can also recruit new soldiers if the opportunity arises.
