Zone Maps

(NEW as of Nov. 2001!!!) Africa Zone Map--This compact, very easy-to-read zone map covers all of Africa and Madagascar. I used the usual combination of climate data and geographical and meteorological analysis.
South American Zone Map--I created the zones on this map (based on climate data and some further terrain and meteorological analysis, though I do give credit to the World Almanac for the map background. NOTE: This is 516K--but the end result is very easy-to-read.
Turkey/Black Sea Region Zone Map--I also created the zones on this map and credit an old Rand McNally atlas for the background. I may upgrade the map background at some point in the future.
The above maps are an exclusive of this website. More maps will likely come soon.

My estimate of percentage of land area (by latitude) worldwide in which palms will grow (at least one or more types of trunked palm). This is based on climate records and not on how commonly palms are actually planted.

More Plant Pictures

Arbutus menziesii (Pacific Madrone)--taken in Port Townsend, Washington
Trachycarpus fortunei (Chinese Fan Palm)--taken in Paris, France (Univ. of Paris)
Eucalyptus globulus (Tasmanian Blue Gum)--taken in Lausanne, Switzerland (botanical gardens)--This probably dies back every few winters.
Eriobotrya japonica (Loquat)--taken in Lausanne, Switzerland (botanical gardens)

Maps of Locations of the Trees Photographed in San Diego

The Location Game!--This is a fun game where you view pictures and guess where they were taken (from a large multiple-choice selector of states, countries and other places). If you guess wrong, then you get hints and retries (up to 3 per picture). All of these pictures have plants (some more than others--and some more tropical than others).
