The Western Scots Pipe Band was conceived during a telephone conversation about the demise of cadet pipe bands in British Columbia. Upon observation that the Victoria pipe band scene was lacking a young, innovative, competing band, and teaching organization for the Victoria area the idea for the new band was firmly put into place.
The WSPB was formed to provide a home for ex-cadet pipers and drummers on the lower half of Vancouver Island, and the lower mainland area of British Columbia, and allow them to expand their knowledge in teaching and competition areas. We are the only Pipe Band in the Greater Victoria Area who's main mission is the teaching of the Highland Arts to local youth.
Our name was chosen to honour the men of the 67th Battalion (The Western Scots), C.E.F. who left Victoria in 1916 to fight on the battle fields of France and Flanders, and who never came home.
