Westfield Bridle Horse Trails |
Maintenance vehicles on the trails must be limited to daylight hours. Vehicles seen traveling on the trails late at night or during pre-dawn hours will be suspected of criminal activities and will be reported to the police. Entrances to horse trails will be "locked down" denying vehicle access during periods of rain and will remain locked for 3-days after the rains cease. This is necessary to prevent damage to the trails, which can be very expensive to repair and to reduce erosion of soils that would fill and block drainage. All debris and horse manure must be removed from the trails and water drainage areas and hauled away. It is important to realize that any and all debris will wash down horse trails and will seriously clog the waterways and drains. Homeowners and other drivers should always act in a cautious manner around horses and riders to avoid scaring or spooking the horses at trail and street crossings. Conversely, riders should ride along streets in a single file and not ride abreast of each other blocking traffic while carrying on conversations as this puts the horse and rider at greater risk of injury. Posts have been placed at the midpoint of selected trails to allow horses and people to pass through easily, but will not allow vehicles to pass through. Should homeowners require access to their property, entry can be obtained by contacting a member of the Westfield Park Board. Below is a map of Westfield's Horse Trails. It shows a symbol where vehicle-restricting posts have been installed. Vehicles will not be able to pass these points. |
