..........Chapter 64A

.......... THE COMPANY TAKES SHAPE

..........

.......... Monday, July 13

..........Jo got up first and was in the kitchen when Linda got up. She joined Jo in the kitchen for breakfast, still wearing her robe. Linda let her robe slip open, exposing her naked body as she pressed it to Jo, kissing her goodby.

..........Jo had a hard time keeping her mind on her driving for the first few miles. They had used the dildo again last night, she could still feel the fullness of it in her vagina and Linda's naked body pressed to her before she got in her car was making her wet.

..........She parked in her space and went directly to her office.

..........A lot of pieces began to fall into place on Monday. Dr. Krell brought Susan Stevens to Phoenix with him in the company plane to show her the new facility. They came to the lab first so she could see the cage and be briefed on the various things that were going on. After looking at the cage they met with Norma, Karen and Jo in the conference room.

.........."I think Sid is going to accept the transfer, they are working out the details today. He will be the manager of the central office here in Phoenix, vice president I guess. Banks have a lot of vice presidents," said Susan smiling.

.........."I would think you, Susan, would have essentially the same responsibilities here as you currently have in San Diego," said Dr. Krell. "Except Karen will be performing all of the administrative duties as Clinic Administrator and Director of Nursing." "That will leave you free to manage what I believe will be a much larger counseling program. There will be many more patients with some new needs." "You will still be able to practice your excellent nursing skills when time permits. You and Karen can work out the details."

..........Karen spoke up. "There are two women here whose husbands were changed to females in the initial accident." "They are planing to be changed to male, if it can be done, since there is not much hope of changing their husbands back." "They are asking for help in coping with this."

.........."Yes, that is one of the new areas," said Dr. Krell. "It will be a challenging task, lets go out to the facility and look over the progress there. Would you care to accompany us Norma"?

.........."No, I think not. Karen and I have some work to do concerning our personnel and administration programs."

..........Jo got a company car and drove them to the facility. Bill and his crew were well into their work when they got there.

.........."It's a lovely site," said Susan as they parked and entered the building.

.........."Your office would be one of these here in the central area, along with the rest of the staff," said Dr. Krell. The Clinic occupies the two West wings, to your right, the research institute the next wing to your left with the laboratories, shops and the cage in the first floor and basement of the far East wing. "We expect the Clinic to be operational and the patients moved in next Monday."

.........."I will give you all the time you need here to arrange for housing, you and the rest of the staff." "We are arranging for a real-estate agency here in Phoenix to handle both ends of all relocations. I understand there will be a representative at our office when we get back." "Lets go there now, unless there is anything else you would care to see."

.........."No, the facilities seem more than adequate and I think this will be a pleasant place to work."

..........Jo drove them back to Honeybone and went to confer with Karen.

.........."Did you get the company relocation policy"?

.........."Yes, Jane left it on my desk, this is excellent." "It even provides for the company to purchase your house if you have trouble selling it."

.........."Are you going to stay where you are"?

.........."It was close to Hillcrest but it's pretty far from the institute," said Karen, "I think I'll ask the agency to find me an apartment closer to the institute, no rush though." "How about you"?

.........."Linda has ... Linda and I have a very comfortable house and it's about as close to the institute as it is to here, I think I'll stay where I am."

.........."The man from Linda's agency is talking with Susan now, he knows about the company policy and is used to dealing with those things," said Karen.

.........."Well, I need to talk to Dr. Krell and I've some contractors to deal with today. I'd better get busy."

..........Jo went to Dr. Krell's office and knocked, "Come in Jo, I have been wanting to talk to you," said Dr. Krell, "it's about your second treatment."

.........."That's what I came to see you about," smiled Jo.

.........."Our work schedules are very trying are they not"? said Dr. Krell.

.........."Yes they are. Dr. Krell, would you consider treating me here this afternoon, letting me drive myself to Hillcrest for the night and then drive myself back in the morning"?

..........Dr. Krell thought for a moment, "Yes, We could do that, Your blood chemistry is stable, as is the others. There would be an hour's delay in your first post treatment test but that would not be significant. I will do it provided you find someone to drive you, both ways. You can return on Friday for Your MRI."

.........."I can do that, Linda can drive me over and Karen can drive me back in the morning." "I'll get Michelle to setup the cage for four this afternoon if that suits your schedule."

.........."That will be fine, it only takes fifteen minutes," smiled Dr. Krell.

..........Jo smiled back, "It's simple isn't it, for a couple of old after hours pros."

..........Jo checked with Karen to see if she could stop by Hillcrest in the morning and bring her back, Karen said she could. Jo met the contractor and his foreman at the site and spent most of the afternoon discussing the job. Total shielding was essential and Jo was insisting on careful inspections at each stage of the construction. She had used MILSPEC specifications and the contractor was questioning the need for some of the requirements, each piece of rebar being grounded by a welded connection for example. Jo implied the need for containment of secure radio transmissions and that seemed to satisfy the contractor. His foreman had worked on such jobs before and knew how to schedule the inspections.

..........Jo phoned Linda, "Linda, sorry to give you so little notice but I need you to do something for me. Dr. Krell is going to give me my second treatment at four, can you come over and then drive me to Hillcrest afterwards? I'd like for you to be with me when he does it." "Good, I'll meet you at the entrance at quarter till, see you then."

.........."Hi, Linda, I'll sign you in, come on back to the lab and you'll see the cage work, they're ready for me now."

.........."Are you nervous"? asked Linda.

.........."Probably not as much as you," replied Jo.

.........."Hi, Michelle, good afternoon Dr. Krell. Are you sure this thing is safe for my husband"?

.........."Your husband? yes, that was what that letter was for wasn't it Jo, congratulations to you both."

.........."Yes, we were married on Friday during our lunch hour," replied Jo.

.........."I see what you meant when you said your schedule was tight, well, go in the cage and we will get started. Is everything set Michelle? Yes, start the timer."

..........Dr. Krell threw the switches, waited for the twelve minute signal and turned the transmitters off.

.........."That is all there is to it, Linda," said Dr. Krell, "She is as good as new, better than new if you will pardon the pun."

.........."Take good care of her, Linda, the hospital is expecting you."

.........."I will, Dr. Krell, Bye."

.........."That's all there was to it! It was so simple."

.........."That's what everyone seems to think," replied Jo as they walked out to Linda's car. "Karen will bring me back in the morning when she comes in." "I'll get my car then and come straight home."

.........."Can I stay with you for a while"? asked Linda as she drove into the hospital parking lot.

.........."Until ten I think."

..........A nurse was waiting for them and led them to Jo's room. She taped a needle in Jo's arm and took the first blood sample.

.........."This is the worst part of the entire process," said Jo.

.........."No, I think the waiting is the worst," replied Linda as she fidgeted in her chair. "Will you feel anything"?

.........."Michelle said she felt a little discomfort in her lower abdomen after about six hours but nothing else, the blood chemistry starts to change then too."

..........They talked about the new company for a while and made some plans for tomorrow and then it was time for Linda to go.

.........."Good bye, Jo, I love you," said Linda as they kissed.

.........."I love you too, Linda, see you in the morning."

..........The drive back was lonesome as Linda worried about Jo. Her sleep was fitful that night.

..........

.......... Tuesday, July 14

..........Jo came home a little after nine the next morning with a big smile on her face. Linda rushed to her and hugged her and kissed her like she hadn't seen her for months.

.........."Every thing's fine," said Jo, anticipating Linda's question, "I'm fine, my blood chemistry is on the way up, I feel great and I'm hungry."

.........."I go back on Friday for my MRI, one more blood test and a tissue sample."

.........."Bacon and eggs, and toast and coffee coming up," said Linda, "and I'm making enough for two."

.........."Do you have to go to work today"? asked Jo.

.........."No, I took the day off to be with you."

.........."Good, I'm supposed to take it easy today and you are a good person to take it easy with." "I guess I'm supposed to keep from getting sexually excited for two days though, so behave yourself."

.........."Well, start with these," said Linda as she put their breakfast on the table.

.........."Can I use the computer? I want to see if I can finish some of my office work."

.........."I'll setup a password for you and you can have your own private set of files." "That way you can use the word processor and other programs and keep your data confidential."

.........."You mean like correspondence and stuff"?

.........."Yes, and we can put all of our financial records in the accounting program, even pay bills electronically." "They can be separate accounts if we want." "I have an address book too and the word processor even prints the envelopes."

.........."I'm going to like this," said Linda.

..........Jo helped Linda setup her files and gave her a temporary password, 'linda'. She could change it when she wanted to.

..........Jo had some work she wanted to do also. Between the two of them, they were busy most of the day.

..........Linda helped Jo fix supper and they relaxed until bed time. Linda behaved herself and stayed on her side of the bed for the next two nights.

..........

.......... Friday, July 17

..........The work went well during the week and the sign was finished on Friday, complete with new sod. Bill was going to work his crew over the weekend to finish the final miscellaneous details in time for the arrival of Dr. Krell's staff and patients on Monday.

..........Jo went to Hillcrest in the morning for her MRI and then came back to finish the work she had scheduled for the week.

..........Dr. Hopkins called her about four-thirty and told her that her transformation appeared to be complete, the same as the others.

..........Jo closed her office, told Jane she was going home and went to the parking lot. "It really was her home now" she thought as she got in her car.

.........."Hi, Jo, through for the week"? greeted Linda as she hugged Jo.

.........."Yes, and through with some other things, my MRI film shows an almost full size uterus and two ovaries in their proper place."

..........Linda put her arms around Jo's neck, kissed her and then leaned back and looked in her eyes.

.......... "Wonderful, that means I can make you pregnant."

.........."Not with what you've got."

.........."But your new company is going to give me what I need isn't it"?

.........."I hope so," said Jo, a more serious expression coming over her face. "If that's what you want to do, I'll bear our second child."

..........Linda started Laughing.

.........."What are you laughing about? I was serious," said Jo.

.........."I was thinking about our first child trying to explain to someone who his mother and father were."

.........."Yeah," smiled Jo, "he's my mother and she's my father."

.........."Maybe we shouldn't tell them until they've grown up, kids can be mean to each other if there's anything unusual about them," said Linda.

.........."You're probably right," said Jo.

..........

.......... Monday, July 20

..........Dr. Krell moved his patients into his new Clinic eleven days after the purchase. Bill had even succeeded in finishing all of the central offices, everyone could move in.

..........All of the patients were ambulatory and came to Phoenix by chartered plane along with the staff. A bus met them at the airport and brought them to the clinic. Everyone seemed to like their new surroundings and fell right into the slightly new routine.

..........A moving van brought all of the files and computer equipment from the Honeybone plant and everything was usable by noon.

..........Somehow, Karen had managed to have the cafeteria staffed and lunch was served for everybody, complete with a big cake to celebrate the opening.

..........Norma had a smile on her face all morning as she watched everything come together.

..........

.......... Tuesday, July 21

..........Susan met with Cindy and Linda on Tuesday afternoon in the counseling room to start their first session. The entire program was not ready but some of the basics could be started. The first thing was almost too simplistic but Susan had encountered too many apparently worldly women who were very ignorant of their own bodies, yet alone a man's body. The first part was a film that described the two anatomies in great detail. It then showed a fascinating set of photographs taken of naturally aborted embryos taken over a period of several years. These showed the transformation of the initial female embryo into a male. The photos taken of Norm's transformation led everyone to believe that their transformation would be the reverse of that depicted for Norm, and that was almost exactly what the film showed.

..........Susan amplified the film's narration and described how their labia would form a scrotum with their ovaries moving down into it to become testes and their vagina forming a penis with their clitoris becoming its head. The other obvious change would be the shrinking of their breasts to the male nipples and the few essentially hidden breast cells. Men have breasts and do develop breast cancer, however their breasts are essentially those of an adolescent girl. Other expected changes would be reduced pelvic width, increased shoulder width and increased height. Their muscle and bone mass would be expected to increase, their skin would lose the inner layer of fat that gave women their soft feel and produce the typical male hair distribution. The extra layer of flesh on the outer part of their upper thighs would disappear. Their facial features would probably resemble those of a twin brother.

..........These were the basic physical changes they could expect. The next session - probably the most important - would deal with the significant changes that could be expected in their mental outlook on life in general. That would be followed by one on sexual desires and attitudes. The later ones would deal with clothing, conversation, gestures, posture, grooming and physical activity.

..........Susan scheduled the next session for Friday morning and they left the conference room

.........."Are you ready for this"? Asked Linda.

.........."I guess, are you,"

.........."We don't have much choice do we."

.........."Not really."

..........After being confronted by the realities of what lay in store for them, they didn't have the desire for much small talk as they walked out to their cars.

..........Linda drove home and prepared the basics for supper, she would cook it when Jo got home. Until then she lay on the sofa and thought about what she had seen and heard.

..........Jo came home and found Linda lying on the sofa, staring into the distance. "Hi Jo, she said.

.........."What's wrong"?

.........."I guess it's the session we had with Susan. The graphically explicit descriptions of what we will go through left both of us upset." "Why did she have to be so explicit"?

.........."I think it was for the shock factor. She wants to wake you up to the realities of what you're asking for. She wants to weed out the people who are seeking this kind of thing for trivial reasons."

.........."Well, she's good at it," "If I didn't love you so much it would have changed my mind. You go change, I've almost got supper ready. All I have to do is heat it up."

..........They ate supper without much talk, watched TV and went to bed early. Linda never left Jo's arms except when she went to the bathroom. She just wanted Jo to spoon in behind her and hold her while she slept. She seemed better the next morning but still a little despondent, her kiss was one that she didn't want to break. Thursday was not much better.

..........

.......... Friday, July 24

..........Friday was better as she got ready to go to the clinic for her next session. During breakfast, she was talking about the things that they thought they had figured out and was anxious to confirm them. Jo hoped that they had been right and that Linda wouldn't be disappointed. As they went out to their cars, Jo asked Linda to stop by her office before she left the clinic.

..........Linda parked beside Cindy just as she was getting out of her car and walked in with her.

..........Susan was waiting for them in the counseling room.

.........."Good morning Linda, Cindy. How was your week"?

.........."Okay," said Cindy.

.........."So-so," said Linda.

.........."No, it wasn't," said Susan. "You both had miserable weeks, I could see it in your eyes when you left. And you're not much better now." "I want to apologize for what I put you through but it was necessary, it's better for you to have gone through it now than have to live with a major mistake forever."

.........."I would not have put you through it if I had not determined that you could take it. I've studied your case carefully and felt that you were serious, however, I had to confirm it."

.........."You both came here this morning, determined to stick it out didn't you."

.........."Yes."

.........."Yes."

.........."Good, help yourselves to some coffee and donuts. I want to start off with a fifteen minute test, simple multiple choice, and then we'll discuss your answers."

.........."Here are your tests, take them while you're drinking your coffee."

..........The test was about their attitudes toward a wide variety of things: sex, politics, social mores, children, dress.

.........."Okay, keep your papers. Now, here are the typical male answers to the same questions by men in your educational and social class." "Do you see any differences"?

.........."Yeah, a lot," said Cindy.

.........."Mine too," said Linda.

.........."Would you believe your answers will be the same as the men's six months after you change"?

.........."They will"? Answered Cindy.

.........."I think they probably will," said Linda.

.........."Why do you say that, Linda"?

.........."Jo and I have discussed many of these subjects at some length. My decision is more voluntary than Cindy's, I could just find another man. Cindy is married to Darine and has a child." "Jo and I have to be sure about this."

.........."I'm surprised at the depth of your thought process and your careful logic, Linda," said Susan, "It's rare these days." "You're correct."

.........."What you see are, I believe, the outward manifestations of the differences between the male and female minds. I can show you the biological necessity for these differences but it would take too long for this session, it's only necessary now for you to accept that they do exist."

.........."It's also necessary for you to accept that you will change your minds on these subjects." "The new hormones will play a part, but it appears, especially since we have had a chance to go over the data from the group, that the different chromosomes play an even more important part. It is now becoming more obvious that the male and female brains ARE different and that it is because of the need to support the two sexes in their procreation roles that these differences exist." "If you don't let yourselves follow the changes in your minds, if you dogmatically stick to your previous beliefs, you will have major problems fitting into the male world, and more importantly, relating to your wives."

.........."It's not important that you and your wife agree on these subjects but that you understand that you will have different perspectives concerning them."

.........."Now, lets discuss each question, and any others you may have. We've got all morning."

..........Jo had asked to meet with Norma after lunch and was in her office at one o'clock

.........."Norma, I'm concerned about having only one set of transformers. If something happened to any part of them, I'm not sure I could replace it." "I know what Honeybone specified, but I'm not sure what we got. I've already identified one defective component and there may be others."

.........."A short circuit and we could be out of business, is that what you are saying, Jo"?

.........."Exactly, as I see it, we need to do two things. The first may not be possible but the second can be done." "The first is in Dr. Krell's area and entails determining why the Y chromosomes did what they did, why did they respond to the particular radiation the way they did." "The second task is to reverse engineer every part of the transformers, every wire and chip, to make sure we can build another one that will do the same thing these are doing." "Needless to say, the second must be kept under the tightest security, probably the first also." "A patent can be circumvented but a secret cannot be duplicated."

.........."I agree with you 100%. Dr. Krell may be going down this path, but for different reasons. I will discuss this with him in detail," said Norma, "I knew I brought you on for a reason, start your reverse engineering immediately."

..........Jo left a message for Michelle to call her as soon as she could, the two of them should be able to do this. They would basically build two new units and compare them with the existing A and B units, one component at a time. "Somewhere along the way they would have get a volunteer to test the new units," Jo thought.

..........

.......... Friday, August 7

..........The shielded room was completed on schedule and ready to be equipped. Michelle had joined the company and was helping Dr. Krell's people in getting the cage setup. She would operate and maintain it when they were finished.

..........Even though the transmitters were in a shielded room, they and the stool for the patient were still housed in a Faraday cage. The shielded room was actually a backup feature. The Chromosome Modification Machine, (CMM), as it was now called was operated from outside the room to provide further safety for the operator and observers. Two TV cameras and a large TV monitor were located in the room so that the operator and observers could watch the patient and the patient could see the observers. The process was now fully automated. All that was required was for the description of the specified treatment to be entered into the control system and the start button pressed. The machine would turn on and then off after the required time.

..........The installation went well and everything was ready for calibration on Monday.
