forever - chapter one

Kian woke up with a loud moan. He had been sleeping for quite a long time though, but lately he never seemed to get enough sleep. He decided to stay in bed a while longer just to snooze a bit.

He closed his eyes again and thought about all the things he had to do today. It wasn't much... only a photo session for the newspaper. He would be free throughout the afternoon. He jumped out of bed and went downstairs to get his breakfast. He saw that she was already up. He grinned to himself. Early bird as usual...

When he got downstairs he saw that his whole family had assembled in their living room. This really made him wonder... what on earth were they all doing here??? "Hey guys, what's up?" Nobody heard. Much to his amazement he saw everyone was crying or nearly crying. What was going on???

Then he finally saw Esther sitting on the chair. She was crying as well. He walked up to her to ask what was wrong when Bryan and Nicky entered the room. They didn't see him either although they were only an inch away from him. "We came as fast as we could. How is she??"

His mother answered with a voice that trembled because of tears. "She's holding up... She doesn't understand it though..." "No one does. Kian seemed to be the healthiest of us all, and..." Bryan turned away to hide his tears.

Kian didn't get it. They were talking about him, and no one saw him. And what did they mean, was??? He tried to talk to them but they didn't see or hear him.

"Look at them... no wonder you're still here..." Kian turned around in amazement. Behind him stood an old man, wearing a grey trenchcoat and a woolly hat. "What do you mean? Who are you??"

The man smiled at him. "Sorry. I keep forgetting that this is not very logical to the one I'm visiting. My name is Victor. I am your guide while you're here." He shook Kian's hand. "My... guide??" "Yes. Well, there's no easy way for this... how should I say it? You are... not really here anymore my friend. Infact, I'd say you are dead..."
