I woke the next morning to the phone ringing. I rubbed my eyes and sat up in the bed. Shane had answered it.

‘Hello? Oh hi Ki’. What’s up?’ His face fell. ‘You’re joking? And they’re already out. Well, I guess I knew it would happen after seeing him the other night. Yeah, I’ll tell them the truth. There’s no point in denying it.’ He saw I was awake and smiled at me. ‘Yeah, we’ll be down for breakfast in about half an hour.’ He blushed. ‘Yes, we. See you soon.’ He put the phone down and gave me a kiss.

‘What did Kian want?’

‘Y’know that photographer we saw the other night?’ I nodded, sleepily. ‘Well, the photos are in the Mirror today.’

‘What are you going to do?’

‘There’s no options as far as I can see. I’m gonna be honest. Unless you don’t want me to.’

‘No, I don’t mind. As long as you’re sure.’ I was happy Shane wanted to tell everyone.

‘Definitely sure. It’s a waste of time trying to hide it. Come on, let’s get dressed and go and get some brekkie.’

‘Together?’

‘Mmm-hmm. Kian knows now, so we might as well let the rest of them know.’ He kissed me again, and smiled cheekily. ‘Breakfast can wait for a while can’t it?’ I leant over and kissed him, by means of an answer.

Almost an hour later, we finally made it down to breakfast.

‘And what happened to you two?’ Kian was smiling.

‘Don’t be so nosy Ki’!’ The two boys laughed and Shane took my hand. ‘Have you got a copy of the Mirror?’ Kian handed him it. I gasped.

‘We’re on the front page! This is a joke right? What the hell am I doing on the front page of a newspaper?’

‘Kissing me, that’s what!’ Shane laughed again, and so did I. I was so happy I didn’t care.

Later that day, Shane and I were shopping in Glasgow. They had a free day until the concert that night. We left the restaurant we’d had lunch in, and outside, there were fans waiting. Apparently, the waiters had told them to wait until we left.

‘Shane!’

‘Hi girls.’ He smiled, but I didn’t. This was the first time fans had seen us together. Shane started signing autographs and posing for pictures. I took a step back, but one girl came across to speak to me.

‘You must be Harriet, right?’ She spoke really quietly.

‘Yeah, how did you know?’

‘I saw the pictures in the paper.’ She had the most amazing smile. ‘You’re so lucky! You know, when I first saw them, I was really jealous, but I looked again, and I saw the smile on Shane’s face. If you can keep it there for all the fans, then I don’t care if he’s not single anymore.’ I hugged her. ‘I mean, it’s not as though Shane would ever go out with a fan , is it?’ I laughed, remembering that only a few days earlier, I had been a fan too. ‘What?’ She looked confused.

‘Sorry, it’s nothing.’ I tried to stop laughing. ‘Listen, thanks for coming and speaking to me. I didn’t realise it until just now, but I was really nervous about the fans seeing me with Shane. So, have you seen any of the concerts yet?’

‘No, but I’m going tonight, and tomorrow. I can’t wait!’

‘They’re really, really good. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.’

‘Look, I’ve got to go.’ The rest of the girls had finished. ‘Good luck, with Shane I mean. I hope everything goes okay for you.’ She smiled again, and went off with her friends.

‘Are you okay?’ Shane looked concerned.

‘Y’know, you have the nicest fans.’

‘I know.’ He laughed, and kissed me lightly.

The rest of the afternoon was spent shopping, before we had to head back to the venue for the sound check. Some more fans stopped us, and they were all really nice to me. To begin with, I was amazed with how much they knew about me, but then I remembered how tightly packed all the fans were, sharing information.

By the time we got to the SECC, neither Shane nor I could wipe the smiles of our faces. Every fan we’d seen had been really nice, and given us really positive vibes. We wandered into the dressing room, hand in hand. Suddenly, Shane gasped, and dropped my hand. There was a tall, blonde girl sitting on the sofa.

The girl stood up. ‘Hello Shane.’

‘G...G...Gillian!’ Shane stammered. I knew instantly who she was, and I ran from the room in tears.
