Life of Bryan

chapter eight

Sarah was glad nothing had been taken from her house, it was a rotten time to be burgled. What kind of sick person would rob someone just before Christmas?! The police had been slightly confused as to what had happened.

Sarah told them her side of the story and the burglar had told his. No one could understand how he had been knocked unconscious. Sarah thought he must have hit his head or something, on what she didn't know but thought there must be a reasonable explanation.

Bryan was still withdrawn. He knew what had happened was real he'd seen it on the local news, the burglar was an extremely wanted man. They hadn't mentioned Sarah at all but he was sure it was her as they'd shown a picture of the burglar on the telly and it was definitely the same one.

Bryan couldn't understand what was going on and he decided to have a discussion with Kian about it. Kian was very open-minded and believed in lots of strange and unusual things. They went down to the hotel bar and had a couple of non-alcoholic beverages (Bryan wanted to make sure Kian was talking sense).

"Do you believe in 'Out Of Body Experiences'?" he asked as Kian downed a pint of cola in one go, burping as he finished. "Yeah, sure. That could happen!" Kian replied "Why?" he smirked "You left your body recently?".

Bryan grinned, he could never have a serious conversation with Kian and it was good that way. Kian could always lighten a tense moment. "I think I did" Bryan told him.

"What did you do? What happened?" Kian asked starting to get curious. "Promise you won't laugh or tell anyone?" Bryan asked wondering if Kian could keep a straight face or a secret. "Cross my heart" replied Kian crossing his heart.

"I watched her in her house" Bryan muttered thinking it sounded crazy, saying it out loud. "Who? That girl with the green eyes from the dream?" Kian was really getting into this now. "Yeah, she's real you know. It was the same one from the airport. She's cut her hair though, now she looks like Victoria Beckham!" Bryan smiled. "Really?" replied Kian getting excited "That gorgeous eh? You'll have to take me next time" he joked.

"She was going to be robbed and I stopped the bloke." Bryan got serious now. Kian stared at his mate, unsure of what he was trying to tell him "How, if you weren't really there?". "That's the thing!" Bryan interrupted "I was there! She couldn't see me or hear me or anything but as soon as I saw what he was going to do I flipped. I ran straight at him and hit him. He felt it and fell!".

"Are you sure you weren't dreaming?" Kian was having his doubts now. "I knew you wouldn't believe me!" Bryan muttered. Kian felt bad "No, it's not that. You have to admit though it is a little far fetched. I mean how do you know it did ACTUALLY happen?".

Bryan showed him the day's newspaper with the story inside. "And you didn't read this first?" Kian asked. Bryan shook his head "It happened last night." Kian stared at his mate in disbelief wondering whether to believe him or not. The story and the circumstances behind it were inconclusive. "I have to find her" Bryan said taking back the newspaper.

Sarah had never been burgled before and was pleased that nothing had been taken so she still hadn't been. She was clearing up her house when Sherry knocked on her front door.

Sarah let her in. Sherry had had a phone call from Sarah that morning telling her what had happened, and had rushed home from Leeds to comfort her best friend. She was a bit miffed that Sarah hadn't called her immediately after it had happened.

Sherry had planned a girls night out to cheer them up. They were going to go to a club in the West End. Sarah hated clubs but didn't want to upset Sherry's feelings as Sherry was trying so hard. Sherry hoped she'd be able to find a boyfriend for Sarah at the club, she didn't understand that Sarah didn't want anyone, that is with one exception.
