shane’s story - chapter six
The wedding was set to be small and quiet. Only the closest of Shane’s family was there, the boys from the band, Ronan and Yvonne, Anto and Louis and his wife. Nicky was Shane's best man.
None of Nana’s family was there. That put a bit of a shadow over it, but Nana’s mother was under the hand of her father and because Nana had chosen to move to Ireland to be with Shane, her father had thrown her over and forbid the rest of the family to have contact with her. But Nana had chosen, and was happy with her choice. But still - on a day like this, it hurts!
She was so beautiful. Shane couldn’t take his eyes of her as she and his dad came up the isle. He had a happy lump in his throat and for a second he was afraid he would cry. "Oh Shane, she is beautiful." Nicky said with a low voice. Shane nodded. "Yeah and she’s mine."
To get out of the church was really overwhelming. The wedding date had never been announced in public, but yet there were hundreds of fans outside, screaming congratulations and throwing rice and red roses at them.
Shane and Nana laughed and laughed, and they felt so happy. Rice was crawling in everywhere and it just kept coming. The rest of Boyzone was out there with their respective partners and wives, some of the staff from BMG and Shane spotted some reporters and photographers too. "Where do all these people come from?" Shane asked Nicky. Nicky waved his eyebrows.
Shane caught a glimpse of Bryan’s cheeky face too. "You guys put people up to this?" Bryan and Nicky nodded. Shane shook his head and laughed happily. Then he pulled Nana tight and kissed her and hilarity broke out all over. "This is our secret wedding," Shane chuckled looking affectionately into his wife’s eyes. She laughed and he hugged her again. It was okay. It really warmed their hearts that the lads had wanted to surprise them like this.
The wedding party also grew bigger than expected, but also that had been taken care of by Bryan and Nicky. Those two guys just wanted it to be big, what else was planned was just not enough.
There were so many nice speeches that night, Nicky as the best man held the most beautiful one that really put a tear in both Shane’s and Nana’s eyes. Shane’s dad made Nana cry for real, Kian’s was very touching too. In the end of the day when everything was over, and Shane and Nana ready to leave the party, Nicky held them aside for a minute.
"I hope you guys are not angry with us for arranging all this extra.?" Shane shook his head. "No, Nicky, we’re not angry, only furious. How dare you?" He chuckled, then he hugged Nicky. "It was amazing and overwhelming. Thank you."
Nicky chuckled. Then he reached out for Nana. "Nana, you are the most beautiful bride I have ever seen. You took my breath away up there." Nana’s eyes were sparkling and her smile was so bright. "Thank you. You’ll have it better next month with Georgie."
Nicky chuckled and hugged her. "Maybe. Maybe. But at least so far I have never seen anything this beautiful." Then he kissed her and gave her back to Shane. He was looking forward to his own wedding, finally, after so many years, Georgina would officially be his. On paper.
