You?re setting me up with Kian?? I snickered as Mattie and Mark waited for my answer. ?You?ve got to be kidding me!? I roared with laughter and slapped my knee.
?What?s so bad about Kian? He?s not as evil as you think he is.? Mattie said and crossed her arms.
?Yeah he is. He totally rejected me when I went to the CD signing.? I stopped laughing and wiped away my tears.
Mark sighed and put his arms around Mattie. ?Toni, there were millions of girls there and Kian wasn?t in the best mood, but that doesn?t make him Hannibal Lecter. And besides, that was like two years ago!?
I bit my lips. They were really serious. They wanted to set Kian up on a double date ever since he and Jessica broke up. But why did they pick me? Especially when I thought of him as the plague.
?Nah,? I shook my head and started to head out. ?I?ll see you guys later okay??
Mattie ran after me. ?Please? I will be grateful to you forever!? She pleaded with her green eyes.
I exhaled and brushed my hair away from my face. ?If you?ll admit that I let you have Mark!?
Mattie chuckled. ?Yeah right! Well?. I wouldn?t have gone for him if you still had liked him.?
?Me too,? I smiled and hugged Mattie. ?You owe me big time. One date. No guarantees that I?ll be staying the whole night.? I finally said breathlessly.
Mattie beamed and yelled for Mark to come. ?Mark! Toni said ?yes?! Come here!?
Mark came running, nearly out of breath. ?Really? I promise you that Kian will be on his best behaviour!?
?I trust you guys. Pick me up tomorrow night okay?? I asked them and they nodded their heads in unison. It was so weird to see the two of them acting so alike. That was one of the reasons they were so perfect for each other. Not to mention that their tempers matched each other?s as well.

***** Later that night *****

The sound of the doorbell rang and I dejectedly picked up my purse and my black overcoat. ?Oh God,? I thought as I opened the door. ?Prepare for doomsday.?
Mattie, Mark and Kian stood there all dressed up.
?Come in.? I said nervously and opened the door wider.
Mattie skipped in holding Mark?s hand and Kian followed them with his hands stuffed into his pockets.
?Kian, this is Mattie?s friend Toni.? Mark introduced us.
Kian lifted up his head and his blond hair fell across his face. He grunted and reluctantly extended his hand. ?Nice to meet you.?
?Did you know that she came to see you once in the Philippines for a CD signing?? Mark encouraged Kian.
Kian looked at me with a confused look on his face for what seemed to be like an eternity. ?Nope, I don?t remember her.?
Mattie gasped.
My heart plummeted and my jaw literally dropped to the floor.
?Why don?t we go to the bathroom to um? Do our business?? Mattie asked me and grabbed me to the bathroom.

***** In the bathroom *****

?Did you see the way he was acting?? I hissed to Mattie.
Mattie fidgeted with her hands. ?Okay, um, you might have been right in this whole thing,? She started to say.
?But?? I asked her.
Mattie sighed. ?But Mark already made the reservations and he?s really looking forward to having a nice evening.?
?I don?t know why you?re such a persuasive person.? I seethed through my teeth and followed Mattie outside of the bathroom.
?Thanks a million.? She replied in a hushed voice.

***** At a Greek restaurant *****

?Mark, this food is delicious!? Mattie exclaimed as we dug into our dinners.
Kian and I had not spoken a single word at all since the so-called greeting at my house.
Mark, with his mouth full, nodded his head in agreement. ?It was Kian?s idea to come here.?
?Really?? I choked onto my salad, surprised at what Mark had said.
Kian glared at me. ?Are you saying that you think I have no taste in food??
?Uh oh.? Mattie gulped and nudged Mark to make Kian calm down.
I felt my blood boil. ?Actually, I figured you were the type of person who?s such a stiff that the only food you buy when you go out is a Happy Meal!?
?What?? Kian sputtered and nearly spat out his wine.
?Tones!? Mattie hissed to me. ?Stop that!?
?I?ll have you known?.? Kian raised his fork to me.
?Kian!? Mark interrupted him. ?Will you two stop acting like a bunch of crybabies and let us have a nice evening, especially for the fact that I?m leaving Mattie for four weeks!?
I quickly shut my mouth and Kian did the same. I saw Mattie with tears in her eyes. I hadn?t realized that she wasn?t going to see Mark for another four weeks and she sacrificed her last night on a double date where she would rather be alone with him.
?Sorry.? Kian mumbled and bit into his souvlaki.
?Me too.? I agreed.
Mark inhaled for two seconds. ?There. We?re all good okay?? He gave Mattie a reassuring smile and drank his wine.
?Yeah.? Kian muttered and glanced at me from across the table. I could have sworn that his cheeks grew flustered when I caught him looking at me like that. Then he looked back down at his Greek platter.

***** A few moments later *****

?Will you come to the washroom with me Toni?? Mattie asked me with a look on her face. That meant it was time to talk.
?Sure.? I mumbled and picked up my tiny handbag.

As Mattie and Toni left, Mark glared at Kian.
?What?s with your attitude? You have no right to treat my girlfriend?s friend like that!? Mark whispered hastily to Kian.
Kian put down his glass of wine. ?Well, you?re the one who convinced me to go out on this stupid date when you knew that I wasn?t exactly Mr.Happy.?
?You?re never happy unless you get your way! Kian, you have to learn how to appreciate other people?s feelings and be considerate of them! Mattie really tried to get Toni to come out on this date and she gave up our night together so you can have one of your own.? Mark explained and leaned back into his chair.
Kian truly felt horrible and vile. ?I didn?t realize?.?
?No you didn?t,? Mark said and crossed his arms. ?Do this for Mattie, and for Toni too, if you can see how important it is to me.?
?Well, I do have to admit, Toni?s kind of cute?? Kian blushed and chuckled.
Mark laughed. ?That?s a start! Look, they?re coming back, so just be yourself and not the insensitive jerk you were being before.?

?Hey.? Mattie greeted Mark with a warm kiss.
?What is with you ladies having to go to the bathroom all the time? Is it some sort of secret society?? Mark teased us.
Mattie looked at me and laughed. ?Nah, that?s for us to know and for you to find out.?
I felt so lonely when I saw Mattie and Mark completely in a world of their own. I felt like the third wheel, even though I was actually on a date.
?So, you said you went to the CD signing?? I heard Kian?s voice ask me.
I turned my head to him, completely surprised that he was talking to me. I figured by the looks of it that Mark had talked to him while Mattie and I were gone.
?Yeah.? I mumbled and picked at the remaining bits of my salad.
?I?m sorry if I ignored you or whatever. It was just really? I don?t know, hard to take it all in because of the mobs and everything.? Kian slowly explained and looked up at me, with his blue eyes shining.
I smiled and blushed. ?I understand. I don?t think you?re as bad as I thought you were.?

?They?re a really nice couple, don?t you think?? Kian asked me as we watched them slow dance with each other really close to each other.
?Yeah.? I felt my cheeks grow hotter by the minute.
Kian cleared his throat. ?Ahem? I?m sorry if I turned you off earlier. I was just in a depressed mood and I shouldn?t have been rude to you.?
?That?s alright.? I mumbled and tried to avoid his piercing blue eyes.
?Would you care to dance with me?? Kian stammered and I saw him tap his fingers nervously on the table.
?Um?? I started to say.
?I promise I won?t bite.? He laughed and held out his hand.
?Okay. It wouldn?t hurt to have one dance with you.? I replied and took his hand and he led me onto the dance floor.

Kian wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer. I could smell his cologne on his neck when I moved closer to him. It felt so strange for some reason ? like I was in the right place at the right time.

?Oh Mark, look at them!? Mattie whispered to Mark as he held her close to him.
?Hmm?? Mark looked up from her shoulder and glanced over at the direction she was looking and saw Kian and Toni dancing together. ?Wow! We?re a bunch of pretty good matchmakers, aren?t we?? He grinned at Mattie.
Mattie giggled and rested her head against Mark?s chest. ?I hope it comes out in a positive way. I would hate to see Toni hurt.?
?Yeah, me too. I doubt Kian would ever really hurt someone.? Mark said and continued to dance slowly with her.

After being twirled back into his arms, I noticed Mark and Mattie staring bewilderedly at us. I knew they were so curious to eavesdrop on our conversation that they danced closer to us.

?What?? She protested and gave me an innocent look. ?Mark wants to ask Kian how he can do the twirl because I want him to do that to me!?
Kian?s face grew flustered and he whispered something to Mark that caused Mark to pull Mattie away from us.
?What did you tell him?? I asked Kian.
He gave me an evil grin. ?I just said that I would tell everyone that Mark bought a cowboy outfit to umm? You know what I mean.?
I gasped in shock. ?No! So that?s why I saw a cowboy hat in their room!? I tried to not to laugh so hard and I noticed Mattie blushing in humiliation. She had overheard what Kian had told me.
?You?re a really nice guy Kian.? I finally said as the song slowed down, meaning that it was coming to the end.
?I?m glad I agreed to come out tonight, otherwise I would never have met you.?
He replied and gave me a soft lingering kiss that made me weak in the knees. My heart pounded and I closed my eyes to kiss him back passionately. I felt that nothing could stop me from what I was doing ? which was following what my heart was telling me to do.
