Helpful Breastfeeding Hints |
You can breastfeed even if you have to go back to work, have a cesarean birth, a premature baby, or even twins! The more your baby nurses, the more milk you have. Nurse often. Newborns usually nurse at least 12 times in a 24-hour period. Avoid supplements and overuse of pacifiers--this can lead to nipple confusion. When your baby cries, try nursing. Beginning about the third or fourth day after birth, you should expect 6-8 really wet cloth diapers or 5-6 disposable diapers and at least 2 bowel movements daily. Take care mom! Rest, rest, rest! Nap with your baby. Drink to your thirst. Continue eating a well balanced diet. Talk with a mother who has enjoyed nursing her baby, such as a La Leche League Leader. The more you know about breastfeeding, the better prepared and more confident you'll be. |
