| I grew up on a farm in northern Illinois and my family trained and showed Quarter Horses. I was very active in 4-H and participated in both the equine and canine project areas. My children were also actively involved in 4-H showing dogs and rabbits. My daughter and I raised Mini Rex rabbits, and were able to travel throughout the US showing them.
I studied massage therapy a couple of years ago, but unexpected family matters required me to withdraw from the program prior to completing my final semester. In the fall of 2007, a friend Maryland mentioned she was studying animal massage and I knew immediately that it was something I was supposed to do. I was very comfortable taking a correspondence course as I had studied anatomy & physiology, kinesiology, and massage therapy technique while I was in school. I also had almost 50 years’ experience working with a variety of large and small animals. The PetMassage™ certification program almost seamlessly integrated my life-long experience with animals, a holistic approach to wellness, and my previous massage therapy coursework. I fulfilled my practicum hours (plus an additional 8-10 hours) by working with a well-respected breeder of field trial dogs and a rescue foster home, in addition to working on animals belonging to friends, family, and myself. Since receiving my certification, I have been providing services at local dog agility trials. Please see my Testimonials page for more details. Animal massage has allowed me to take my passion for animals and provide a beneficial service for them and their owners. I am able to help caregivers improve the health, happiness, well-being, and performance of the animals in their care. I am very excited about the future of animal massage, and I’m looking forward helping people discover how to enhance the lives of the animals around them. |
