INTRODUCTION

Brachial Plexus Injuries (BPI's) are tragic not only for the children they afflict, but for their parents as well. Parents are often bombarded with a barrage of medical lingo that they can not or do not understand. They must then sort through this maze of alien facts and come up with a strategy to care for their child. That task is not always easy. Parents may not have the training or the necessary knowledge to understand the facts that are presented to them. Interestingly, many physicians and medical personnel are illequipped to provide them with adequate information.

The injury is considered rare. Because of this, many doctors know little more than many parents. That seems to be especially true in the area of surgical treatment.

This page is here to help. It is only one of many excellent online resources available for those who suffer from a BPI. The writer is an expert only in that his daughter suffered a BPI at birth. You'll find the real experts elsewhere. And that's the purpose of this page; to give you a starting point for finding those other resources. Hopefully, it will give you a quick and general understanding of the injury as well.

Good luck in your journey. If at any point during navigation of this site you have questions, suggestions or comments, please feel free to drop me a line at spock@gru.net .
