Morning Star Weyr
Giyth nuzzled against her red mate as she watched the smaller of her eggs begin to rock. She let out a small bulge, only loud enough to warn the candidates who were happily splashing in the nearby weyrlake.
Scrambling out of the lake, the candidates rushed towards the candidate’s barracks to grab their robes.

Forget the robes! Giyth said to the candidates.
Shivering in only their bathing suits, the candidates turned and head back to the sands. The girl loosely circled the two gold eggs as the boys stood on the other side of the sands. One of the smaller eggs cracked and a green snout poked from the shell. She seemed to be having trouble so a small groups of boys moved towards the eggs and freed the green. As she tumbled out onto the sands, she crooned.
  “I’m sorry,
Narreath! I’m sorry!” Niaki shouted as she rushed over to help the green to her feet.
The green looked up at the girl from Alskyr,
It’s all right, Niaki. By the way, what’s a Cove?
Niaki smiled, “You’ll find out soon enough.”
Suddenly, two more eggs cracked revealing one bronze and one green. Just then, Zearia rushed onto the sands. She gasped and tried to call Endoth. Dokenoth shook his head as the two dragonets started towards the boys.

Don’t call Endoth, Zearia, Dokenoth pleaded. We want for the hatching to be private.
Zearia nodded and smiled as she took Weyrlingmaster B’kan’s place. The two dragonets now stood right in front of the boys. The green sighed and crooned as she started towards Dhierdan.
  “No, no, no, no,”
Dhierdan repeated over and over as the green got closer

Do you not want me, Dhierdan? I thought that you’d love me, The green sighed. I guess I was wrong.
Dhierdan smiled down at the green as her mind touched his, “
Yiath, no, please, don’t go. I’ll love you more than anything I’ve ever loved. It’s just that I always…”

I know, Dhierdan, Yiath sighed as she nipped at his robe. I know.
The bronze crooned as he continued to look back and forth from each of the candidates.
Baird rushed forward, placing his hand on the bronze’s shoulder.
  “Don’t worry,
Territh. I’m right here,” Baird sighed.
Just then, the girls gasped, drawing the boy’s attention towards them. The larger of the gold eggs had begun to hatch. The egg cracked down the middle. The girls pulled back, trying to allow the gold more room to hatch, but
Yasenia moved in closer, only to be hit by flying shards of eggshell. Yasenia rubbed her face where the shard had hit her.

I’m sorry, Yasenia, The gold sighed. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I didn’t want to hurt you. I’d never want to hurt you.
“It’s all right, Raberth,” Yasenia sighed. “I’m just glad you hatched all right.”

A gold never has trouble getting out of her shell, Raberth boasted.
Yasenia laughed as she led her gold off the sands.
Suddenly, the second gold egg cracked, and the hatchling leaped at Harasel, but instead of Impressing the girl, she began to maul her like a demented Wher. Suddenly, a large bugled came from a ledge overhead. The gold looked up to spy a large green Wher staring down at her. The gold bugled a challenge to the Wher, but suddenly,
Danika leaped at the gold.
  “
Zenath, don’t!” Danika screamed.

I’m sorry, Danika, The gold crooned. I didn’t mean to upset you.
“That’s all right, Zenath,” Danika sighed.

Harasel, are you all right? A soft voice whispered as Danika and her gold exited the sands.
Harasel looked up to see a large dragon in front of her, colored like a sunset: red swirled with yellow and orange.

Zenath didn’t hurt you did she? Oh, Harasel, please be all right. I don’t want you dieing! Harasel, speak to me!
  “I’m fine,
Karanoth,” Harasel sighed as she tried to pick herself off the sands. “I just need a little numbweed.”

Good, Karanoth sighed, helping Harasel to her feet. Now you can go tell Seharia exactly what you think of her.
As Harasel walked off the sands with her sunset Karanoth, another egg hatched, revealing a second bronze. The bronze tried to pull himself from his shell, but his wing got stuck on one side.
Um, a little help? The bronze sighed, looking up at Paranor.
Paranor gasped as he bent to help the little hatchling, “I’m sorry,
Quanith. I’m really sorry.”

No reason to be sorry, Paranor. I understand exactly what you’re feeling. Karanoth is a lovely dragon, Quanith sighed.
“You stick to getting something to eat now,” Paranor laughed. “You can think about that when you’re grown.”
As Paranor lead Quanith off the sands, two eggs hatched revealing two hatchlings that matched perfectly the color of their eggs, a forest green and a light cream color. The two hatchlings stumbled together in an almost graceful dance. Two of the girls looked and smiled at the hatchlings. Suddenly, the pair turned and glared at each other.

She’s mine! One of them cried.

Not if I get there first! The other one shouted.

Baretta and Caverila were taken back by the two voices echoing in their heads. The two rushed across the sands, the green  leaping at Baretta and the other at Caverila.

She was trying to take you away from me, Caverila!

No, you were trying to take my Baretta away from me!
“No one was trying to take anyone from anyone,
Derearth,” Baretta sighed.
  “That’s right,
Peryth. You were mine all along,” Caverila agreed.
At that moment, another shell cracked and the dragon tried to pull himself from it in his anxiousness to reach his lifemate. The bronze crooned and
Reaunt rushed towards him.

Reaunt! The bronze sighed as he rushed over to Reaunt, Um, what honorific should I give you. R’unt certainly won’t do for a bronzerider. The bronze crooned, shaking his head. Reaunt laughed as he realized exactly what had been wrong with his name and helped free his bronze from the remaining part of his shell. I don’t want my rider being teased by the rest. You shall be…T'nuaer.
T’nuaer laughed, “I sure hope no one else heard the first name,
Berecth.”

I can assure you no one did; although, that really won’t matter for the experienced dragonriders. They know how an honorific is produced. I just threw them a curve ball this time, Berecth sighed as he spread his wings.
