Establishment Four years after the end of the Ninth and, hopefully, final Pass, the 23rd Southern Exploration Hold/Weyr, dubbed Morning Star, was established. One of 23+ rest stops scattered through out the Southern Continent, Morning Star will provide a tranquil atmosphere for dragons and their riders after a long day of flying straight across Southern. The first skin you picked up was pretty short. You place it back on the shelf and run your hands along the books again until you find one labeled 'Location of Morning Star'. You pull it off the shelf and a worn, tattered map falls to the ground. You pick it up and set it on the table behind you. You'll look at it later. You open the book and find another short skin inside. Location Morning Star is located off of Paradise River because when they built Morning Star, it was the midpoint between to other Weyr/Holds, Hijapa and Gikano, but these two Weyr/Holds were destroyed by an attack from a rogue group of vandals who were later captured and exiled to one of the islands north of Southern. It is believed that these were the same vandals who set fire to Morning Star Hold. "Fire?" You think about what Fakia said as you look around the room. "Yes," Someone says. You turn and see Derian standing in the doorway of the record room, Karist circling his head. "The Great Fire, they called it," Derian says, taking a seat at the table. "It happened, oh, three or four years ago, I'd say. Someone set fire to Morning Star Hold, just west of here, or at least, it was. It burned to the ground before the weyr even knew about it. That fire killed half of the people in the hold. It orphaned over twenty children, me being one of them, and left the weyr completely devastated. They sent the older orphans, i.e. me and the others over 13, north to pursue crafts or to be candidates at the Northern Weyrs. The younger children stayed at the weyr, housed in the weyrfolk dorms until someone saw fit to adopt them. Some of them are still here. Lath, Rita, and Rita's sister - can't remember her name right now - are three of the orphans left. Lath was luck in she was fostered by one of the weyr's couples, Kida and Kosofian, but still, Lath, Rita, and Maiana, that's her name, are probably just going to stay here til they Impress or marry, but anyway, the record for the fire's right here if you want to read it, but I don't think there's anything in it that I haven't already told you." You take the record from Derian and turn it over. It's just as short as the other two, and written in broken sentences. You struggle to read it. Ten years after founding, Morning Star Hold burned. Arson suspected. Not confirmed. 300 killed. 25 children orphaned. Older sent north, younger sent east to MS Weyr. You turn and set that book back on the table and pick up the map and examine it.
