As the sun set, the guests moved inside for the Gather Feast. Zearia sighed as she watched each person go in. Jikgon was not here yet. What could be taking so long? As she sat down at the head of the rider's table, Jikgon came walking in, and slipped down into the seat next to Zearia. "Sorry I'm late," He whispered. "It took more time than I thought it would to settle in those candidates. Kaira said she would finish it up so I could get here." Zearia sighed, "Do you think she's going to be all right?" "Maira's with her if anything happens, and Saiayth can call Sioth," Jikgon said. "It should be fine." "Welcome all!" Haren's voice boomed through the dining room. "We are honored to have so many be here for this day! Starlight Hold hopes to have many, many years, and not suffer the same tradgey that Morning Star Hold did!" Zearia clapped politely as Haren finished his speech. "And now," Haren started again. "I'd like to thank Journeyman Harper Derian who has written a ballad to honor us on this very day. That will be performed later on in the evening, but for now, Let's eat!"

As the Feast drew to a close, K'ran shot up in his chair. "K'ran, is something wrong?" Zearia called. "Kaira's having the baby!" K'ran shouted, jumping out of his chair and running towards the main courtyard. "Sorry, Haren," Zearia called as each of the riders leaped out of their seats. "We have to be going!" "I understand completely, Zearia," Haren called back as she rushed out of the room. Zearia and Jikgon both climbed onto Aith's back as every Morning Star dragon winked between. *** Zearia and Jikgon paced outside of Kaira and K'ron's weyr. Kaira's screams could be heard down the hall. After what seemed like hours, K'ran emerged from the weyr carrying a little baby... "It's a boy," K'ran smiled. "A boy." "Have you thought of a name?" Zearia asked as she glanced down at the little face. "Kaira said that was my job," K'ran laughed. "I was thinking...Kairan." "Kairan," Zearia sighed. "It's beautiful." K'ran smiled proudly as Kairan fussed, "I guess I better take him back in to Kaira." "She is all right?" Zearia asked. "No complactions, Zearia. She'll be just fine in an hour or two," K'ran smiled as he turned and walked back into the weyr. "A beautiful baby boy," Zearia smiled as she leaned back into Jikgon's arms. "They're so lucky." "I can't wait until we have a baby boy," Jikgon said, smiling down at Zearia.

Kairan's baby blue eyes widen as Kaira carried him outside. He laughed when he saw Saiayth looking down at him. Reaching up with one hand, he gently stroked Saiayth's muzzle. "K'ran, did you see that?" Kaira asked, turning as K'ran came up behind her. "He was so gentle." Of course he was, Saiayth said. I told him to be. Kaira turned and looked at her dragon, "What was that, Saiayth?" I told him to be gentle, and he was. What is the matter? Saiayth asked. "Saiayth, if he heard you, does that mean he can hear dragons?" Kaira asked. Saiayth gave a sighed and lowered her head to her rider, I am not sure if that is what it means. You will probably have to wait until he is older to see if it is true. Kaira nodded and turned to K'ran, "Wouldn't it be great if he could though." *** K'ran sighed as he and Kaira climbed into bed with Kairan's new crib across the room from them. "Now that Kairan is born, K'ran," Kaira said. "I'm going to sign Saiayth up for flight again. She's been ready to fly for the last three sevendays, but I told her to wait until the baby was born. Now that he is, she's going to be flying anyday now." "I'll be sure Sioth is the first one signed up," K'ran sighed as he kissed Kaira. "Now go to sleep, love. The last few days have been hard for you."
