Morning Star Weyr
Venara sighed as she watched her brother run back and forth. He worked at Falas Weyr in the FGPC. He rushed past her as he went to oversee a new experiment.
"Venara, take this!" He shouted, handing her a small round object as he rushed past.
Venara look down at the object in her had and gasped when she saw the gold beak peeking out from the shell.
She gasped. A gold hatchling! She had never even expeced to get a fire lizard, much less a gold. she glanced around for something to feed the hatchling, and see nothing, she reached into her pockets, fishing for some sort of food. She found one old meatroll, and a piece of fruit. The egg shattered and she gave the hatchling the meatroll.
"Sorry about that!" Her brother shouted as he rushed by again, handing her a bowl of meat.
Venara smiled at her brother as she gave the flit another piece of meat. The gold chirped for more, and Venara handed it to her...er...him. The gold had green wings. It was gold/green, but it was male.
"This is really weird," Venara sighed. "I guess I'll name you Ika so that being male won't show."
Ika chirped loudly as Venara handed him another piece of meat.
"Like your name day present?" Her brother asked as he stopped in front of her.
"Veren, my name day isn't for another sevenday," Venara sighed.
"That way it's a surprise," Veren sneered. "Surprised?"
  "I certainly am," Venara sighed.
"So, what's her name?" Veren asked.
"His, and it's Ika," Venara sighed.
"A gold/green male with the name of Ika?" Veren laughed. "You are special, Venara."

Venara sighed as she hung the clothing out in the meadow behind Morning Star Weyr. Ika chirped in her ear as two large dragons landed in the courtyard.
"Another search, eh?" Venara laughed. "You know we never get to stand, Ika. We're to useful to the Weyr."
"And you'll be more useful with a dragon," Zearia sighed. "Get a move on, Venara. I'm not going to keep the riders waiting."
Venara smiled. It wasn't everyday that Zearia addressed her. The Weyrwoman had spent most of the day since the alert that the Turquoise clutch wasn't going to hatch locked in her room or fiddling with her sketch pad. Only since she had been chosen to go to Falas for a special hatching had she perked up.
"So, this is the Venara you were talking about, Zearia," the male rider sighed as Venara appeared on the courtyard. "That flit cetainly is interesting. A female I suppose?" He asked Venara.
  "Male in fact," Venara sighed.
"I guess she'll do," the female rider sighed. "Jurith and i will go on ahead and see if we can find someone else."
"Well," The male rider sighed as the female and her green winked between, "are you ready and willing to stand?"
"Of course," Venara sighed as she smiled at Zearia. "I was always willing and now I'm ready."

"Tither the left line and knot the right," Venara repeated to herself as she tied off the blue dragon's riding straps.
"Very good, Venara," The blue's rider, K'ral, sighed. "I think you're getting the hang of this."
It's still a little loose, Binerth, K'ral's blue, sighed.
"Oh, be quiet!" K'ral exclaimed. "They're just as tight as I make them."
Venara smiled as K'ral patted Binerth affectionatly on his muzzle. Suddenly, a loud bugle echoed through the Weyr.
  "What was that?" Venara asked.
Just then, Binerth started to hum.
"The clutch is hatching!" K'ral shrieked. "Get to the sands!"
  "My...my robe!" Venara studdered.
"Forget it. You won't be the first candidate to Impress robeless," K'ral said as he pushed her towards the sands.
Venara stumbled nervously towards the entrance. All the other candidates were on the sands, and it sounded like someone had already Impressed. Sighing as she walked onto the sands, Venara braced herself just in case something happened that she hadn't expected.
Venara watched silently as dragon after dragon hatched and chose. Soon enough, she was left on the sands with four other girls and no more eggs. She sighed and lowered her head. Well, at least nothing happened that she hadn't expected.
CRACK! Suddenly, a gold hatchling burst from underneath the sand. Venara stepped back, unsure of what the gold might do if she got too close.

Venara, please come back. I'm Jrineth, the gold hatchling sighed.
"Oh, Jrineth! I thought for sure I’d get a green," Venara cried as she hugged the gold.

I'm better for you, Jrineth cried.
"You’re right, you are much better!” Venara cried.
