| Originally from Long Island, NY, Lisa's fitness background began in college by becoming a fitness trainer and aerobics instructor in 1986 for Jack LaLane fitness centers (Bally's). She then received a degree in Physical Therapy from the State University of NY in 1990, was later appointed Onsite Clinical Instructor of physical therapy in 1993, and worked full-time in an orthopedic & sports medicine concentration while continuing to work concurrently in the fitness industry until moving to NJ in 2000. Lisa has always heen professionally involved in physical fitness. She has enjoyed teaching exercise on land as well as in the water as an aquatic exercise specialist. She has spent many years as a Nationally Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, Professional Figure Skating and Dance Instructor, High School Athletic Coach, and for several years performed in the NY JETS half-time show at Giants Stadium of which she was appointed a team captain. Upon relocating to NJ, she has worked as the manager of the Morristown Memorial Hospital Fitness Center and has continues to keep her hand in the P.T. profession by working in St. Clare's Hospstals and Rehabilitation Centers per-diem. She has since continued to achieve certifications in several different types of specialized exercise. In 2001, she combined her love of both careers and opened up her own business, "Women's Fitness & Recovery, LLC": An exercise facility dedicated to fitness for healthy women, children and seniors, and for those with special medical needs, one of those needs being cancer recovery exercise. Lisa's own mother, sister, aunt and cousin are all breast cancer survivors. She knew from first-hand experience with her patients and family members that there was a need for specially designed breast cancer rehabilitation that could be provided as a professionally supervised exercise program and also in book form for those who could choose to engage in independent home exercise. Lisa combined her physical therapy expertise with the professional knowledge she gained from her certification in Breast Cancer Recovery and her extensive research to develop and service-mark her own breast cancer recovery exercise program. She offers this program in private one-on-one sessions, in small group classes in her facility and in support groups and hospital based complimentary wellness programs. She has been writing two books that will be ready to hit the shelves sometime in 2006. One is a post-operative exercise workbook for those who have had breast surgery and the other is about the difficult decisions women face when choosing between different types of breast surgery and reconstruction. Beyond the rehabilitative place Lisa has in exercise, at her facility, she also provides sports-specific training. After spending the past few years as a tennis and golf enthusiast, she decided to get more serious about providing exercise for golfers and became certified as a Golf Conditioning Specialist. She has service-marked her own golf conditioning program for both men and women called "Par Excellence Golf Fitness" SM. This comprehensive program aims to improve a golfer's physical condition to enhance their swing and ball-striking ability. Her extensive orthopedic and neurological background combined with her skills as a highly specialized personal trainer & conditioning specialist enable Lisa to utilize her knowledge by designing safe and effective exercise programs. When Lisa is not working, she spends much of her time and energy volunteering for the community raising money and awareness for charities, chairing events of local clubs, staying active with her church/family and enjoying as many rounds of golf she can squeeze into the year. |
