My wife and I visited Mount Vernon on July 7, 2004. This photo was taken in Washington's backyard. Behind is the Potomac River. About 15 miles north (to the left) the Potomac passes through Washington, D.C.
A rear view (from the direction of the Potomac River) of the mansion.
George Washington's Mount Vernon estate.
The Mount Vernon mansion and the kitchen house.
The original resting place for our first president. Washington left detailed instructions in his will for the construction of a new tomb nearby to hold the remains of his family.
The final resting place for one of our nation's greatest leaders.
