possible father of my Henry S. Boyd
                        Henry S. and Susannah M. Baumgardner are my Gr.gr.gr.grandparents.

This information has not been proven but much of this is based on facts, as I see them. If you have information on any of these families I would love to hear from you.  This is not a complete list of descendants; I have additional information. If you find errors please contact me….Wanda

Many people have my Henry S. Boyd as child of Rev. War soldier William Boyd.  I have yet to find anyone who can prove this fact.  Even tho people were received in the DAR (years ago) thru Henry and William, I do not believe that they can prove a connection.  I doubt that they could join the DAR these days and times because; much has to be proven and documentation has to be proven.  I have searched for over 12 years to find just one shred of proof that Henry and William were even kin to one another.  This can not be found. I have had many debates on this alleged connection.   Many have listed that William Boyd had other children on their DAR applications.  But, in my research these children are NOT his children.  But, a Bible record exist that has these children listed as children of John Boyd who lived near Nashville, Tennessee. 

There are researchers that are taking letters that are found in William Boyd’s Pension File and are taking those out of context.  Judge Ernest Boyd wrote the government in 1932 asking the government if there was proof in William’s file that Mary Wasson was his wife, and asking if John Boyd and Henry S. Boyd are his children.  I have that Pension File and there was no information in the file to implicate that Mary Wasson was a wife or that John and Henry were children.  Only person mentioned was a wife Nancy Smalley.  Some reserachers think that just because Judge Ernest Boyd thought that this was a family, then they believe that it must be so.  No facts back his theory.

Also, in William’s Pension file there is a deposition that states where William was born and all the places that he had lived over the years.  Not once does he mention that he was ever in the state of Virginia.  This is where my Henry was born according to the 1850 census records.  Just in this along I would say that they are not father and son even tho there are many errors on census..  When William was in Roane County, TN he never once had any dealings with Henry.  He can however be found having connection with John and  Elizabeth (Leath) Boyd and Elizabeth Boyd and husband John Lane. 

In later years there was a Robert W. Boyd, Hugh Boyd and a John P. Boyd and mother Sarah that came to Roane County where Henry and Michael lived.  I believe that these are realated.

I will state as many facts as I have and if anyone can add to this or prove me wrong, I would appreciate hearing from you… Wanda

Researching my Henry’s family I can only conjecture the line to be as follows…


. 1 Jeremiah BOYD was born before 1760 and died after 1830 in Washington County, TN.  He married Margaret UNKNOWN.

There was a John Boyd in Washington County, VA very early and I would think that this is his father.  In 1772 John Boyd was the only Boyd listed as paying taxes in Washington County, VA.  Jeremiah would not be of age by this time.

DEED: Deed bk 6, pg 386, 25 Mar 1817; Jeremah Boyd and Margaret Boyd to Christopher Vaught all of Washington Co, VA.  185 pds VA currency.  Washington Co, VA on the Holstein.  Sig: Jeremiah (x his mark) Boyd, Margaret (x her mark) Boyd.  Ret: 18 Apr 1817. 

In the 1810 census record Jeremiah can be found listed next to Henry Boyd in Washington County, VA.

NOTE: Because of the way that the D of Boyd is written sometimes it is mistaken an S.  David and Michael above have Bays as the name.   In reseraching my Henry I found this to be true of his marriage record also. It was indexed as Bays.  When I found the actual marriage return it was BOYD.

I have not researched David and his family.  But I’m sure many of them came to the Washington County, TN area.

… 2 Robert BOYD born in Virginia and died in TN.  He married Abigail UNKNOWN. As shown in deed abstracts.  His wife is referred to as Abigail in one, and Sarah in another.  Could be one person or could be that he married twice.  There is a marriage record for Robert in Washington County, Virginia to Sarah LAUGHLIN 17 August 1797.

NOTE: Moved to Carter Co, TN between 1800 and April 1803..
