Before I start this little diatribe I would like to say one thing: when I was growing up music was religion to me. There was really no one god per say the whole thing together was God, Allah, or whatever. While I don’t think of Religion as the almighty I still feel that Music is the place where I make peace with my God. Not to say that all Musicians are saints or anything like that there are many thing in music that are very bad for a whole host of reasons but when a real effort is made in this arena you have to respect it. OK OK that was more than one thing. What Does IT All Mean? You might ask Well I am just trying to say that music, as an art form is important to me. That why I would like to make records for the rest of my life but still that is not the point of this little essay. I want to write a book. Kristen suddenly stops reading… wait a minute she’s not reading this anyway The book will be entitled The 100 Greatest Music Makers (writers, musicians, performers, producers) of the 20th Century. From Scott Joplin to Radiohead, it does not matter what genre (yes even techno Darby) only that they meet at least some these criteria. Influence in: Culture Music Songwriting Performance Popularity and Longevity: Length of Career Staying power after career is over Popularity during Career Where they innovators: Where they the first? Did they make it popular? How important was there: Genre Innovation So Mr. Book Writing Jackass What do you want me to do about it? I would like you to email at segomyego@hotmail.com your picks for my countdown. Remember you must have good reasons. You can’t just say I vote for Purge because Robert is hot. You must have at least a few specific reasons. Thank you and goodnight, Robert |
