You are somewhere new again, and Kahla is gone. "Okay, Wells, you can do this," you say out loud. You take a step forward and begin to fall. Reaching out your hand, you - you realize you don't have a hand! What has happened to you? How will you get out of this place without your body? How can you scream without your throat?! You hear something down at your feet screaming up at you. It's an earthworm. "Pick me up! Take me with you!" You want to help it, but you don't know how. You decide to close your eyes and act as if you have a body. It works! You are holding the worm in your... HOW DO YOU HOLD A WORM IN YOUR HAND IF YOU DON'T HAVE A HAND? You quickly close your eyes and are reassured. You can hear the worm murmuring, "This is the Forest Where You Only Believe Without Seeing. You must step onto the path immediatly." You open your eyes. The path is gone! You close them again and step forward. Once on the path you re-open your eyes only to discover...you've become the earthworm! Just as you decide to scream, the worm interrupts. "I believe you are in my head and so you will be. Until I open my eyes." "That's cheating!" you cry. "I believe you can't cheat if you aren't playing a game. This is no game, it is an adventure," returns the worm. "I'll just close my eyes and undo it," you reason. You do so. It doesn't work. You are angry again, but scared too. "Where is Kahla?" "Who's Kahla?" "Don't be dumb, she's the girl who was just here...I mean, just where I was..." "You'll have to be more specific than that, human child." "Call me Wells. Kahla is my stepsister, well, in three days." The worm makes a snorting sound. "That Lala girl? We don't need her!" You scowl, or you would if you had a body. In fact, if you had a body you would squish this worm. "I still need to find her or our parents will be real mad." "Parents? You can't find them, or home, or Lala, so just give that up now." You've had about enough of this worm. But how can you get rid of it? Soon it doesn't matter, because you see red eyes glowing at you in the darkness. "What's that?" you ask nerously. The worm screams. "Run! Run! It's the guardian!" "I can't run," you remind the worm, though it is hard to speak with your mouth going dry. "Yes, yes, you can. Run! Just do it before--ruuuuuuunnnnn!" |
