War on Terror

by Kim Jeehoon

The conflict between the Middle-East countries and the U.S. has gone on for many years now. The constant suicide bombings, the 9/11 incident, and the wat in Iraq are all proof of the conflict. The question is what has motivated all this hate and tension? Could it actually be a religious war between Judeo-Christian forces and Islam? I believe it is not.

I believe the foremost reason, the Islams are indulging in acts of terrorism against the United States is because of the harassement and scorn they had to endure from the Americans. Americans would come to their country and ignore Islams, treating them as inferiors. This feeling of inferiority has mounted and has sparked an entire terrorist network that has spread all over the Middle East.

If we loook at the war raged by the Bush administration on Iraq. Many people are saying the real reason behind the war is oil. Why did Bush suddenly attack Iraq when the people responsible behind the 9/11 terror weren't even there?

If we step back and look at the whole picture, I believe the motivations behind the tension between America and the Islam countries stems from more political and economic reasons. Islamic countries want to make a stand for themselves and make America respect and fear them. On the other hand, America is trying to show the world that the US is the ultimate power and also trying to obtain economic profits along the way.
