stability at speed:

Stability is an aspect that can make or break a good rider, If You look at the best riders and you look at good riders you will realise that their is very little separating them, little subtlties, stability is one of these, The first way someone generally wipes out when skating is from "the wobbles" , You will notice that these generally happen at a time that is stressful to that person(braking, they see a car, etc etc)  us humans are a bit dim when it comes
to fear and control, they aren't supposed to go together,

what happens when a car is charging at us a car that we haven't seen? we freeze , instead of getting out of the way (like common sense says we should) our bodies go under a "spell" as though we couldn't move(this is in most situations with the average human being) Imagine what would happen if that normal person(lets admit it not all of us are fearless) is on top of a skateboard and gets a mild form of this tenseness that freazes us when we are about to get hit by a car, this time there are no car brakes, there is a board under that normal humans(herby reffered to as person) feet that needs controlling, it's like pushing an F1 car to it's top speed and lettimng go of the steering wheel, the first thing that gets tense in a dangerous situation is our ankles, because millions of years of evolution have taught us to run when danger is near, however when we are supposed to be controlling a skateboard that is moving too fast to run off tense ankles are the last thing we want, they give a board a mind of it's own.

so here are mike's tips for stability:
don't stress:
why do think the crazy ones of us always make it down the hill? They think there isn't a thing in the world that could hurt them.

Get high and airbrake:
no don't go smoke illegal substances, stand up out of your tuck and stick your arms in the air this slows you down which also slows down the wobbles which will eventually throw you off your board if not taken care of, I here people telling me how they immidiatly go down low to stop wobbles and for "some reason they got thrown off their boards"

Mike's NO1 tip for stability:
KEEP YOU ANKLES RELAXED: always warm up before you skate with some warm up exercises, not only does it genereally help your tuck to be loose it lessens the chance of injury if you do fall. this doesn't necesarily mean go out and be ignorant of everything around you in order to remain calm, it means make sure you know whats coming up and that you have confidence in the hill you are riding,
bumps are the no1 wobbles starter for a good skater, the difference between a good skater and the best is that the best skater will hit the bump unexpectadly and pull it off with a bit of a bobble, a good skater will hit that bump unexpectadly and fully come up out of his/ her tuck stick their arms in the air and life goes on, some things are un pullableoff, (curbs cars reversed across the road etc) and no man could pull it off, however a set of relaxed ankles will sometimes pull you through were tense or semi tense ones will not. This doesn't mean when you hit a bump go floppy ankled, prepare your ankles keep the weight distribution as it was before you hit the bump maintain.
