| On the morning of his 30th birthday, Ray Smith tries to remove a "machine" from his chest with a steel hobby knife. Ray lands in the hospital under the care of a psychiatrist, Doctor Riley, who tries to convince him that it's all in his head. The reasons are obvious: Ray's marriage is disintegrating, and his job at Hypermedia is a disaster. Ray's "machine" is the fictional manifestation of acute emotional stress and anxiety. Ray is convinced...until he experiences pains in his abdomen, and is rushed to the Operating Room, where he discovers that Dr. Riley isn't exactly "on his side." The faulty device is being removed, and Ray is getting an upgrade - courtesy of his employer, Hypermedia. |
