Braunschweig, Deutschland:

I had grabbed this newspaper earlier this morning and it had said that "Der Kaufman von Venedigen" (The Merchant of Venice) was playing at the theater tonight for free. So we all decided to meet at the theater at 5:30 PM. I was the first one there and was checking out billboards and stuff and it said that the play didn't premier until October 2, so I went inside and inquired about it (all auf Deutsch). The lady said that it doesn't begin until Oct. 2,  and what I had read in the paper tonight was just an Einfuhrung, which is just when they talk and give summaries about the plays and the actors read some pieces from it. So then everyone else showed up, and since we had nothing else to do (because everything is closed on Sundays!!), we decided to check it out. We asked how long it was, and thought they said 1/2 an hour and asked if one can just leave in the middle, and they said, "Sure, just sit by the door," so we did. Well, after about a 1/2 hour, it was really boring, and now, there are like 10 of us, so we decided to get up one at a time and sneak out. So Brian goes first and goes to the door. Suddenly we here this racket as he tries to open the door. I can't look at him because I'm trying so hard not to laugh. Chris is crying and Ana's face is bright red. We finally hear him leave but we cannot look at one another because we're laughing too hard and trying so hard to keep quiet. After we calm down, Chris motions for me to leave, but I said no, I'd rather just wait until it's done. Then someone finished speaking and there was applause and some people got up, so I decided to too. I thought I would walk up the aisle to the next door and try that, so I get up, and turn to my right, but there is a low wall in the way. Instead of just sitting back down, I decided to try "the door". I went to the door and looked at the handles, they were broken. They would spin all around but not latch on to anything, so instead of making a racket like Brian, I sat back down. Then a lady comes to the door and opens them and peers in so I get up and said the door was broken, I turn around, and there's Chris and Ana using the chance of an open door to make their escape. Chris trips and crashes into the closed door (they are double doors), which bangs open and makes a racket against the door, and falls into me. Now I'm laughing so hard. The lady yelled at us for causing a ruckus and then laughing about it. We made it outside and meet up with Brian. We can't stop laughing. We decide to wait for the rest of the crew (Ben, Nate, Ana G., and others ... ). Finally, after about 15 minutes, they come out laughing hysterically. Ben relates the rest of the story. He was getting fed up so gets up to walk up the aisle to the next door. He too sees the wall, but Ben is not daunted by a mere wall. Instead, he hops it and goes out the next door. He then tries to tell the lady in the foyer that the door does not work. Instead of saying "Die Tür funktioniert nicht" (The door doesn't function), he said "Die Tür arbeitet nicht" (The door doesn't have a job). The lady stares at him with a look that says, "Well of course the door doesn't have a job." She tries to re-open the door Ben just came out of to let him back in while he desparately explains that his friends are trapped behind the broken door. Finally he gets his point across and she opens the door and the rest of the troops make their way out. We are definitely black-listed from that theater.

Braunschweig, Deutschland:

Chris, Nate, and I went to a club called the "Jolly Joker" on Tuesday night (2 for 1 drinks). However, we had the amazing forsight to check to see when the last tram departed, because it's about an hour walk back to where I live, and 2 hours to where they live. Nate checked and said that it left at 1:30AM. So we went to the club, danced, had a good time, and at 1:15AM we made our way to the tram stop. So we're waiting, and it's approaching 1:45AM. I stand up to double check the tram schedule. I notice a tiny little asterisk next to the last time on the schedule. I look to the bottom of the schedule and see that it says "only on Friday and Saturday evening." Too bad it was Tuesday. So we began the long trek home ... and it started to rain.
