City of Warren Heights
Bureau of Fire
Division of Special Operations
The Warren Heights Fire Department organized the Division of Special Operations December 1st, 2001.  It was created to provide expert service concerning terrorism and high risk rescues.  Only a select few firefighters are members of the companies organized under the Division of Special Operations.  The Companies that are in this division are Hazardous Materials Company 1 and the elite Rescue Company 1.  The Training Office is also organized under this division as well.
New members to these companies are selected from the operations division by officers of the gaining companies.  Once appointed to the new companies, the new firefighters will be certified as Rescue Technicians and/or HAZMAT Technicians, as well as paramedics.
Rescue 1 logged 1,192 runs in 2003, making it the busiest company in Warren Heights.  HAZMAT 1 logged only 115 hazardous materials incidents.  HAZMAT 1 was re-organized as Engine Company 4 in August 2004.  The new company was supplied with a brand new rescue style pumper capable of carrying the city's hazardous materials mitigation arsenal, as well as all engine company tools.  The older HAZMAT 1 vehicle is now a reserve unit.
