What is a Postpartum Doula? Postpartum Doulas provide knowledgeable and comforting personal assistance nurturing the new mother and family after birth. Each family is unique so the type of support and hours needed are determined by each family. A Postpartum Doula offers the mother time to rest and heal from the birth experience while providing her with informational resources. A postpartum doula can provide loving, experienced newborn and sibling care as well as offer freedom from simple meal preparation and light housekeeping chores. Postpartum doulas listen to the mother's birth story, validate the normal adjustment process and help her with the care of her postpartum body. Having emotional as well as physical needs met is the best way to ease into the bonding and recovery process. SERVICES THAT I OFFER: Free initial consultation in your home to meet and work out postpartum plan if you decide to hire me. At this meeting we will discuss your wishes for your postpartum plan and how I can assist you. Breastfeeding assistance, instruction (if needed), support and encouragement Help with light housework such as vacuuming, dishes & light laundry Running errands as determined important by the new mother such as light grocery shopping, ect. Accompanying mom and baby to appointments Help preparing nutritious meals and snacks Sibling care in your home, I am unable to transport your child due liability issues. Day and Overnight care Newborn care and baby soothing skills such as help with first bath (if desired), swaddeling, sling wearing, watching the baby/sibling so mom & dad can catch up on sleep, rest, shower, ect. Provide emotional support, I listen to and honor your birth experience Local Resource Information 24 hour phone or email support Limitations of Doula Practice I do not diagnose medical conditions, provide medical services or treatments for the mother or the baby, but will refer you to a health care provider when appropriate. I do not take over the care of the baby, but assist you in learning to care for your baby's needs. I do not make the parents care for the baby in a certain way. I DO support whatever parenting style you choose and assist you with your needs making it easier to parent your new baby. I do not do heavy housecleaning such as mopping, cleaning bathtubs, or yard work. I do not advance you money for groceries, but ask for cash to make purchases on your behalf. I do not drive new parents or family members in my vehicle or yours. |
