Angel entered his office after getting back from Sunnydale. He alreayd missed Buffy terribly. It was like he was here and his soul was back in Sunnydale with her. Cordelia and Wesley were out, they didn't bother to leave a note, he guess they thought he would probably stay longer than he told them. He was seriously thinking about it, but he was needed in L.A. for the most part. He smiled when he noticed there was a note taped to his desk about the window that was broken by the Morah when he crashed through it. The window was fixed but the note told him the bill is $200. Well that's cheap compared to the amount of money he spent on Buffy's engagemen ring.

He sat down at his desk and picked up his book. He opened it to the place he left it and took out the black-and-white photo of his fiance. He admired it for a few moments, then reached into his pants pocket and pulled out his wallet. He took out a brand new color photo of them together and placed the old one carefully into his wallet.

He sighed.

This was going to be a long five days.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffy and Willow sat side by side in Physic class. Willow was trying to pay attention, but her gaze was constantly drawn to the huge rock on Buffy's ring finger. buffy had told her the night before about her engagement, they stayed up all night telling each other about wedding dreams and Willow even helped Buffy with some ceremony and reception ideas.

Buffy was snoozing, after all she was tired. But she wasn't just snoozing, she was dreaming.

In her dream Buffy sat in class next to Willow. Proffeseur Walsh was lecturing on human emotions and all that. Then Angel appeared at the door of the class. He smiled at her then moved to stand beside the proffeseur. "Miss. Summers." Walsh called on her.

"Yes?" Buffy answered, uncertain about what was going on.

"Stand up." Buffy did so. "Come up here and sit on this table." Buffy followed Walsh's orders. Glancing at Angel's expression, but it was unreadable. Buffy sat herself down on the table that Walsh told her too. "Lay down." she said, Buffy looked around uncertain. "Don't worry, you're completely safe." with that Buffy laid down and propped herself on her elbows. She watched as Walsh told Angel something.

"A demonstration." he clarified.

"Be a good boy." she warned.

Angel moved toward her and sat on the table. They were both mindful of the other people in the classroom, but Angel looked at her like she was the only one in the room, just like he always did. He took her into his arms. Buffy looked up into his chocolatey-brown eyes, that were always so full of love for her. "This feels a little ackward." she told him.

"Don't worry, when I kiss you we'll be alone together." he told her. She looked up at him, confused by what he meant by that. But before she could ask him his lips were on hers. She gasped against his mouth and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. He easily supported her weight with one hand as they attacked each other's mouths. Buffy moaned softly when he broke the kiss and looked up at the empty seats. "See?" he said. Buffy looked around.

Buffy sat up. "Fortune favors the brave." she said. Then she heard a child humming outside the classroom. She looked up at Angel, he heard it too. "Do you hear that?" she asked to make sure. He nodded. She got up and walked toward the humming. Angel in toe. she opened the classroom door and walked out into the deserted hallway. The voice was louder.

"Can't even shout, can't even cry. The gentlemen are coming by. Can't cry to mom, can't say a word. You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard." the young girl sang. Buffy regarded the girl carefully. She recognized her somehow. She looked like Buffy when she was younger. Only she had reddish brown hair. Just then Riley walked up to her and grabbed her neck, strangling her. Then he transformed into a very ugly face, wearing a black formal suit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffy woke up in physic class. it was a dream, all a dream. Walsh told the class something then everyone got up to leave. Willow and Buffy picked up their stuff and started walking. "Man, that was an exciting class, huh?" Willow gushed jokingly.

"Oh yeah well." Buffy replied.

Willow went on. "And that last twenty minutes was a revelation just laid everything out for the final I would have hated to miss that." she teased.

Buffy acted like she didn't care. "Just tell me I didn't snore." she said.

"Very discrete, minimal drool." Willow answered faithfully. Good ol' willow.

"Good." Buffy said relieved.

Just then  Riley caught up to them. "Hey Buffy." he said like a nerd. Buffy pretended like she didn't hear him. "Buffy, hey." he said trying desperately to get her attention.

Buffy rolled her eyes. "Oh, Riley. I didn't see you there." she said with as much fake happiness she could manage. "Will and I are going to the coffee shop, I'll see you later." then she grabbed her friends arm and hauled her away. And once again leaving a confused Riley behind.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That afternoon, when classes were over, Buffy went back to her dorm and flopped down on her bed. She just closed her eyes when the phone rang. Buffy moaned and reached to pick it up. "Hello?" she answered it.

"Hey, baby." he he purred in reply. The tension in her body imediately disapated and she shivered with excitement at hearing from her fiancee.

Buffy sat against the headboard and curled up with the phone against her ear. "Hey." she said happily back.

"How was your day?" he asked, he put his feet up on his desk and leaned back in his chair. It was so nice to just hear her voice, even if he wanted to be able to reach out and touch her face and kiss her lips, and other stuff that cannot be named with this rating, but some of you know what I'm talking about.

"It was good. I had a dream in physic class today. I think it was prophetic." Buffy told him. She was a bit unsettled by it and she knew that Angel would help her to calm down.

"Oh, what was it?" he asked just like she knew he would.

"It was of this girl, who looked like me, only younger. She was singing something, and holding a wooden case." Buffy told him her dream, all about the kissing part and the riley turning into a demon part.

"Hmm. Can't even shout can't even cry, the gentlemen are coming by." he repeated the poem Buffy had told him. "That sounds really familiar."

"Yeah, Giles said that too. He's looking for some demon that might have that rep. but until then, I'm stuck not knowing." she said with a sigh.

"You sound tired." he said, concerned.

Buffy grinned mischieviously. "Well, you know that last night you were here, it really wore me out. I mean, first it was the couch, then the floor, then the bed, then in the morning you decided to save water and shower with me, that can do a lot to a woman." she teased.

He chuckled. "Yeah, well it is your fault." he teasingly accused her.

"And how it is my fault mr. nympho?" she teased. this was yet another one of their teasing conversations.

"I am not a nympho, it's you." he joked. "You're just too damn sexy." he said it like he was accusing her of something bad.

Buffy rolled her eyes playfully. "Oh really? So you could control yourself." she challenged.

"Of course. I've done it before." he told her, he loved it when they joked around like this. It made him so happy. How happy? well, let's just say we should be glad that he's not a vampire with an impermanent soul anymore.

"Okay, your on." she said competatively.

There was a long pause.

"What are you wearing?" Angel asked.

Buffy laughed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was 8:30 PM, when Buffy and Angel finally hung up. Buffy sat in her bed for a while after she had hung up the phone. It was so fun when they had those teasing rally type things. It was like they were in their own little word, the word they go to when their in each others arms, wether they're kissing, making love, or just holding each other. Buffy chuckled briefly then started on her homework.

Shortly after Willow came into the room. She looked really happy. "Hey, Buffy. how was your phone call with Angel?" she asked her friend, walking to her bed with a bounce in her step.

Buffy regarded her suspiciously. "Good." she said hesitantly. "What's up with you tonight. How did the hot date with the Oz-man go?" she asked.

"Wonderful." Willow gushed.

"Okay, spill, what's going on with you?" Buffy asked.

Willow's face brightened even more, if that were possible. "Well, tonight was fantastic. We went to that restaurant, you know the one on Walls Drive?" Buffy nodded. "Well, we were having dinner and I was talking about how happy I was for you. and he said, 'I think it's time you get happy for you', then he pulled out this ring, the most gorgeous ring I had ever saw, well beside yours because Angel  is older and has more money, but it was so beautiful. Then he took my hand and asked me to marry him." Willow said the last part with great enthusiasim.

"Wow, that's so romantic Will. I'm so happy for you." Buffy said, they got up and hugged. "Now we can plan weddings together." Buffy said giggling, Willow joined in. "Wow, can I see your ring?" she asked. Willow nodded and held out her left hand. "Wow, that's pretty. Is that a platinum band?" Buffy asked.

"Yup. Same as yours." Willow said happily. "Oz wanted me to have the best." she said, just loving her fiancee so much at that moment. "But yours is still more valuable than mine."

"Will, it doesn't matter the price. I think Angel did go a little far, but he could have gotten me a 2 cent ring and I would still love it." Buffy told her friend.

"I'm not jealous, did I sound jealous?" Willow asked truthfully.

"No, I just want to tell you that the ring is nice to get, but it isn't how expensive the ring is it's how much you love him." she said. Willow smiled and nodded in understanding. "So, what'd you say we go get some coffee and talk about our weddings." Buffy said excitedly. This whole wedding thing was something she thought would happen until she was way older, but she was really happy it was happening, and that it was happening with Angel.

Willow nodded. "Yeah, let's get ice cream cones and go window shopping at Wedding dress shops." she said just as excited at Buffy.

"Yeah." Then they grabbed their purses and they were out the door. "I was thinking I should have my hair down and hold the veil with a tiara. What do you think?" Buffy asked.

"That would be pretty. What about honeymoon?" Willow asked. "Where should me and Oz go, I mean with the hell mouth and everything, I don't know I we should have one." Willow said.

"No way, you're having a honeymoon. I have my heart set on Tahiti. But only for a few days so that wouldn't be too bad." Buffy told her friend.

"Yeah. I was thinking France myself." Willow said. "I've always wanted to go there, it's so romantic."

"France, that's not bad. That'd be nice to go for a second honey moon." Buffy said with a smile.

"Yeah. so, what did you mother say when you told her about the engagement?" Willow asked. Buffy's expression changed. "You haven't told her yet, have you?" Buffy shrugged. "Buffy.."

"She's out of town right now. I'll tell her when she gets back. She can't stop me from getting married. What would she do, lock me in my bedroom?" Buffy asked her friend.

"Tell her as soon as she gets back, or I'll get very cranky." Willow said putting on her resolve face. Buffy agreed. "Goodie."

"So, what flowers are you gonna have at your wedding?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joyce stared at her daughter. "Engaged?" she asked, not believing her ears. Buffy nodded hesitantly. "I gotta say that boy sure does move quickly." she said.

"He loves me." Buffy reminded her mother. "And if your going to object I don't care what you say, I'm getting married in Febuary wether you like it or not." Buffy said defiantly.

"I'm not objecting sweetie. Congratulations." Joyce said hugging her daughter tightly. "I'm really happy for you." She said truthfully. Buffy smiled at her mother when she pulled away. "So, let's see that ring of yours." she said. Buffy held out her hand and Joyce held it staring at the rock on her finger. "Wow, no kidding he loves you. Look at that thing." she said. "Platinum band too. that's wonderful. Wish Hank gave me one of those."

Buffy smiled and pulled her hand back. "Thanks, but Dad never gave you an engagement ring? How did he propose then?" She asked. Joyce and her daughter sat down on their couch.

"He didn't propose, it was a mutual desition to get married." Joyce told her daughter.

"Oh, I didn't know it could work like that." Buffy said surprised by this. "I thought the guy or the girl has to ask, but both at the same time."

"No, it didn't work like that. We were just talking on day and we desided that if we get married we could take care of each other. But we were so young. Everyone told us it wouldn't last." Joyce said solumnly.

"I'm sorry." Buffy said sympathetically. "That must of been tough."

"Hey, I'm older I'm over it." she said with a wave of her hand, then she took her daugters hand. "Now my baby girl's getting married,  and I'll get to see you walk down that aisle, knowing that the man waiting for you will never betray, abuse, or take you for granted. It's all I could ever hope for." her eyes were teary when she finished her speech.

Buffy's eyes were welling too. "Thanks mom. You're the best." then they embraced each other.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Four months. Four months to plan a wedding. This was going to be tough to keep up with slaying, keep up with friend, and plan her dream wedding. Right now she was sitting on Angel's desk, waiting for him to get back from, where Cordelua said was 'A.I. business', so basically none of her business.

She couldn't wait to see the look on Angel's face when he saw her. He didn't know she was coming so soon. She was supposed to be here the next day at night. She hoped it was a pleasant surprise.

She heard the door open and Cordelia say that she was waiting in his office. No sooner had Cordy said it that the office door opened and Angel rushed in. "hey." she greeted. He was all smiles as he took her into his arms.

"What are you doing here. I mean, you said you couldn't come until tomorrow night. Something about The Gentlemen." he said, happy to see her, but wondering how she managed to get away so soon.

"Well, I finished that sooner. And I believe that we have a wedding to plan and less that four months to do it." she reminded him. "Remember?" she teased lightly.

"How could I forget?" he replied. "Do you have a dress picked out yet?" he asked her. She nodded with a mile wide grin, her and Willow had gotten carried away and ended up putting deposits on the dresses they wanted.

"yup, and don't even think about it mister, you have to wait until the wedding to see it. It's tradition." Buffy teased.

Angel groaned. "but that's such a long way away. How could you do this to me." he joked. She giggled, but it was muffled when Angel swooped down and captured her lips in a sweet kiss. When they broke away he asked, "Have you eaten yet?" She shook her head. "Come on, let's go get something to eat. Then we can discuss plans." he said.

"Okay." she said. "I want a big mac." she said suddenly.

"I thought you hate McDonalds." he said.

"I guess the baby does." she replied with a giggle. Angel just smiled proudly. He finally had everything he wanted.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffy stirred in her sleep and opened her eyes. She noticed something sticky underneath her. When she touched it, it looked red, blood red. She panicked and switched on her bedside lamp. What she saw horrified her. Blood surrounded her on the bed. She wondered where it all camed from. Then it hit her... with a scream of utter agony she realized she had a mischarriage.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffy screamed and tosses and turned in her sleep. Moaning and crying. This woke Angel. He noticed her distress and tired to wake her. "Buffy... sweetheart, wake up, it's only a dream." He gently shook her.

She bolted awake and sat up right into Angel's arms sobbing so hard he thought she would shatter. His arms went instinctively around her comforting her. "Angel, the baby, I dreamt I lost her." she sobbed into his bare shoulder.

"Shh, it's okay. The baby's fine. You just had a nightmare." he soothed her, trying to keep himself calm as well. "It's ok." he rubbed her back and held her head. When her sobs quieted she pulled away. "Do you want to talk about it?" he asked.

She nodded. "It was horrible, Angel. In my dream I woke up and there was blood everywhere. It hurt me so much." she burried her face in her hands, holding back the fresh tears. "But that couldn't happen right. I mean, the powers are making sure that nothing bad happens." she asked Angel.

"I don't know. I think they would be what with this girl supposed to stop the evil forever and all. It does make sense." he told her. "Just don't worry about it. The baby's fine." he placed a gently hand on her belly, caressing it lightly. She smiled and nodded. "okay?"

"Yeah. I'm okay." she assured him. Then they both laid down again and Buffy curled against his chest. Within moments Angel was asleep again, thinking she was too. But she stayed awake all night, terrified to close her eyes even for a second fearing the dream would return.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day Buffy returned to Sunnydale because she had some business to take care of with the plans. They decided on splitting the jobs, they were going to talk about that on the phone that night. When she got back to Sunnydale the first thing she did when she walked in her door was phone up her doctor. "Hello. This is Buffy Anne Summers. I was wondering if I'd be able to get in to see the doctor any time soon?" she asked the receptionist politely.

"Yes. We had a time at 3:00 this afternoon ma'am." the lady replied. "Should I book you?" she asked.

"Yes, I'm pregnant and I just want to come in to get a checkup." she told the lady.

"Okay, deary. I'll see you in a few hours." Then the line was disconnected and the dial tone come on. Then she thought, what is Angel wants to be there for her first checkup? then she shrugged, he didn't have to know about it. He thought she was over her nightmare. When really it was quite the opposite. She was a better actress then she thought.

At 2:45 Buffy showed up at the doctors office. The receptionist checked her in and she sat down to wait. During her wait and picked up a magazine that had info for pregnant women in it. She began to read the section on first time pregnancies. It said that nightmares were normal, but that was from women that don't get prophetic dreams. she was the Slayer and did get them, and this one could possibly be one of those dreams.

She waited there was about 30 minutes, reading all about symtoms and ways to controll them, and about birth and all the options that the mother has. She even went as far as reading about adoption, when really she could never stand to give up Angel's child. Just like she wouldn't be able to stand losing Angel's child.

"Buffy Summers?" the nurse called her.

"Yes?" Buffy replied.

"Come with me." Buffy put down the magazine and picked up her purse and followed the red headed nurse down a long corridor. She stopped and opened a door. It was a small room that had all the examination tools in to. Buffy entered it and sat down in a chair to wait. "The doctor will be right with you miss." she said then closed the door.

Buffy looked around the small room. She stared at each poster and ad and read a poster about the inside of the ear. When she had read all of the posters she could see. She started thinking. What is Ange found out that she was as bothered as she was? But how would be find out? What is he, a mind reader? Then the doctor opened the door. "Miss. Summers. How are you?" he greeted.

"I'm okay. I'm just a little freaked about a mischarriage nightmare I had last night." she told him.

"Ah, I see. Well, that is completely normal. Woman have been reportedly more hormonal and they tend to have very vivid dreams about giving birth to deformed children, mischarriage dreams, that sort of thing. But I am going to run an ultrasound just to make sure." Buffy felt herself relax somewhat. If there was anything wrong, the ultasound would pick it up. "But first I'm going to give mom a checkup. Would you mind sitting up here on the bed?" he asked.

"Yeah, sure." Buffy said and did as she was told. The doctor readied the ear looker thing (sorry I don't know medical terminoloy) looked in her left ear.

"Okay, looks good." he reported. "Have you talked this dream over with the father?" he asked, switching to the other ear.

"Yes, but I told him I was okay. He's living in L.A. We were broken up for a while and he moved there to start over. He's got a business there and can't leave it because it's too well known now. So we're doing the long distance relationship thing." she said.

"Does he know your getting a checkup today?" he asked. He moved away and picked up the throat light thing and a popsicle stick looking thing. "Say 'ah'" he teased her. She opened her mouth, but didn't say anything. "Okay, you do have a bit of a red throat, but it looks okay."

"He doesn't know I'm here. I told him that I was fine and he thinks I got over it." Buffy told the doctor.

"Uh huh." the doctor replied. Then he picked up a small flashlight and shone it into her eyes. "Pupils responsive. I think mom's doing just fine. Any nausia or other symptoms. You know all of them right?" he asked.

"I've been having a bit of dizziness, and I've been more emotional lately." she told him. "But that's normal." she dismissed it.

"okay, well. I'm going to get you to go down the hall and the third door on the right is the Ultrasound room, go in there and change into the robe. I'll be there shortly." the doctor instructed her.

"Will do." she said. Then the doctor left the room and she followed after. Following his directions and found the room no sweat. She entered the room and found the hospital gown on the bed. She easily slipped out of her clothes and into it. She sat down on the bed and waited. She was nervous. What if there was something wrong and they'd have to abort her? No, she told herself, that's not going to happen.

After a few minutes a nurse came in wheeling a machine in. Buffyguess it to be the ultrasound machine. "Hello, Ms. Summers." she greeted cheerfully.

"Hi." Buffy greet back not so cheerfully. "Uh, where's the doctor?" she asked.

"Oh, he's really busy right now. I'll perform your ultrasound." the nurse said. She turned on the machine. "Okay, open your gown so I can do this." she told Buffy. Buffy did as she was told and the nurse squeezed some goopy stuff on the pattel and rubbed the lubricated pattle around Buffy's abdomin. "okay, Yup, there it is. Good strong heartbeat." the nurse informed Buffy.

Buffy relaxed on the bed with a sigh of relief. "So everythings fine?" Buffy asked.

The nurse studies the screen. "Wait a sec." she said quietly.

"What?" Buffy asked her heart speeding up at the nurses words. The nurse was quiet. "What is it?" Still nothing. "Hello!?" Buffy rose her voice.

"Huh?" the nurse jolted out of her trans. "Oh, well, um it looks like Baby Summers has split into two baby summers's." Buffy eyes widened. "It looks like twins to me. I've never seen this before." the nurse beamed.

"Wow." Buffy gasped, then she frowned wishing that Angel could be there to share the discovery. "Thank you." Buffy said lamely.

"Sure, I'll let you get dressed now."  with that the nurse left with the machine. When she was gone, Buffy got up. Then a wave of dizziness hit her. She clutched the bed to steady herself, but soon everything went black.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Doctors hovered over her, blurred and wavy. She blinked to clear her vision. The watery effect didn't go away and soon she gave up and closed her eyes again, sleep overtaking her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She bolted awake, sitting up in bed. She had an I.V. in her hand and an oxygen giving plastic thing wrapped around her head. She knew something was up when she turned her head to see Angel sitting in the chair at her bedside, head down, face broody. "Angel?" she called to him. He looked up. He wasn't smiling. "What's going on?" she asked.

He got up from the chair and took her hand. He looked into her eyes, she saw unshed tears there, and said, "I'm sorry, Buffy, but there was nothing the doctors could do..." He started, but trailed off.

He didn't have to finish his sentence to tell Buffy what had happened. "Oh my God." she whispered. "It's the dream. It told me this would happen. I can't believe this." she said in denial. Her hand went to her belly. "Courtney." she whispered her eyes filling with tears. Angel sat on the bed and pulled her against his chest as she began to sob uncontrollably. Together, they cried.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A week later, Buffy was released from the hospital, but she was still distraught from the loss of her child. Now she was sitting in her bed at home with Angel, ever loyal Angel, by her side. He took her hand. "Buffy..." he started, but she snatched her hand away. "Sweetheart, please don't beat yourself up over this." he begged. "It wasn't your fault." he insisted. She was silent, staring at her hands clasped together in her lap. "Buffy, please talk to me. We won't be able to get through this if you don't talk to me." He reached up to touch her face, but she pulled away again, keeping her face a mask of sorrow and greif. Angel's heart broke again for the millionth time since the incident. "Honey, please..." he trailed off when she turned her head to look at him.

"Angel?" she started.

"yeah." he replied, feeling a spark of hope ignite in him.

"Go away." she said flatly, then turned her face away from him again.

Angel was in shock for a moment, then he nodded and got up. "I'll always love you Buffy. And when you decide to come out of this hole. You know I'll be there for you." then he left. Leaving a heartbroken victim of a mischarriage behind him. He shut the door.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Month Later:

Buffy sat in the fields of the mental institution. Her white robe wrapped around her. She stared at the flowers of the small planter in front of her, but didn't see them. Her failing as a mother had eaten away at her and her friends loved her so much they commited her to this place where she could get help. The kind of help that not even Angel could give her.

She reached out and touched the petals of a white flower, then wrapped her hand around it's stem and picked it. She held it in her hand then lifted it to her nose. She inhaled it well remembered scent. This was the flower that Angel always bought her way back before the miscariage, before him leaving, before sending him to hell, before the episode with Angeles, before they made love for the first time. Way back when her life was simple.

She turned her hand and gazed at the ring on her third finger, the ring that symbolized that she was to be wed to Angel. She had never taken it off, except when he had to but then she would get it back on as soon as possible. It was the only way she could be close to him.

They had told her that her fiancee was doing fine, he missed her, but she didn't know if she was ready to see him. The doctors reported her physically healthy, and reported that she would be able to bare children of her own. The miscariage hadn't damaged her in any permanent way physically. It was the mentally part that really took its toll.

As she sat there a tall figure approached her. "Buffy..." he breathed. She froze, it was that voice, the voice she heard every night in her dreams. The voice that told her he loved her, whispered endearments to her in many different languages, and said her name in that perfect way that made her want to shiver from head to toe.

"Angel." She whispered. She felt him get closer.

He walked around her and got to his knees in front of her. "Look, you don't have to say anything, just listen. I've been doing a lot of thinking this past month and I realize that you don't want to get better. So, I'm calling off our engagement." he told her. Buffy was silent. "Okay, you might as well give me the ring back. It doesn't mean anything now." he said, trying to keep his voice without emotion. He took her hand and was about to take the ring off.

"No." She whispered. Angel stopped moving and look up at her face.

"What?" he asked. He was sure he heard her saying something.

"No." she said in full speaking voice. She slipped her hand from his and moved the ring all the way on her finger again, the tears coursing down her cheeks. Angel's eyes filled with tears as he watched her. And when she threw her arms around him, he hugged her just as tightly. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." she said over and over again through her sobs. Angel burried his face in her hair and inhaled her much missed scent, knowing he had his Buffy back.
