First, you have to make your own staff.
Choose a length of wood from a tree that is relatively
streight along it's length of about 6-7 foot and
1.5 - 2.5 inches in thickness. Typical trees used are;
Willow, Yew and Oak. Oak is strong and heavy, Willow and
Yew are springy and much lighter. Once the bark has been
stripped away and any knots have been shaved down, you
are ready to cut your staff to length. The following
diagram illustrates how to calculate the correct length
according to your own height. The aim being to finish
with a length that is as long as possible but without
the ends of the staff hitting the ground as you use it.

Occasionally, it may be neccessary to treat the
staff with linseed or rosewood oil to prevent it from
drying out and becoming brittle. A brittle staff will
surely snap during the battle.
You must aim to prevent this at all cost if you are to
be worthy of carrying it.
