The Continuing Saga
of the Nasty Man

He was the nastiest of men
He lived in a cage
He growled at everyone who passed him by
Who paid to see
This nastiest of men
Confined to his own ruin
The hatred in his eyes glowed crimson red
The evil in his throat
Howled like fifty wolves
He shook the world when he spoke
Really something to see
This nasty man
In these nasty times
Where people fed him garbage
To help him survive
To ridicule him for yet another day
Once was not enough
There was no profit in that
Evil had to be viewed again and again
From many different lights
At all hours of the day
This nasty man was on display
I went to see him
This nasty man
And I smiled
And he growled
And I waved hello
And he howled
And I pried open the cage door
And I set him free
And he ran away
And his keeper came along
and yelled at me
"What right do you have
to take away my nasty man?"
And I hit him
And knocked him out
And put him in his cage
For all the world to see...
"Five dollars! Five dollars!
Come see the real nasty man!
The one who locks up souls
And puts them on display
For a hungry public to savor
For an angry mob to devour
This is the nasty man
of your making
Enjoy him while you can..."
And as I walked home that night
I could hear the new nasty man
howling in the cage
"Set me free! Set me free!"
"Burn in hell" I replied
For no nasty man would get the best of me.
And as I walked off I saw the other nasty man that I set free
Across the horizon
Laughing and singing
He saw me too
And he waved
And he smiled
And he moved me to tears
And he ran up to me
And said "thanks...
For I am a beast no more"
And we embraced
And he smelled clean
And we cried together
And we danced under the new moon
And we spent all the money I made
At his keeper's expense
And we drank and we played and we sang
Knowing full well that the nastiness was now gone
In our wonderful new place

The world of open doors.
