Squeezing out cash on the squash court

Squash players from the Whitby Squash area raised £300 for charity when they took part in a 12-hour squash-a-thon recently.
Organised by Dr Alistair Sutcliffe, Jed Wilson and Mandy Dawson.
The marathon effort comprised mostly singles games and round-robins at the town's squash club.
The event raised £300 for the National Deaf Children's Society.

Dr Sutcliffe said "Special thanks are due to all those who participated, especially the players - Barry Westwod, Colin Swales, Kevin Page, Joanne Stuart, John Bolton, Steve Parkin, Katie Quick, John Boyes, Arnie Foster, Mark Naylor, Dave Pearson, Clare Sutcliffe, Ian Keyworth and Ian Suckling".

2001/2 Committee

Chair: Kevin Page
Treasurer Ian Keyworth
Secretary Alison Dent
Membership Secretary Keith Patterson

Committee members: John Boyes, Arnie Foster, Jed Wilson, Danny McVay.

Kevin Page took the chair at the AGM in April, after standing in from December 2000 when Jed Wilson stepped down, and is doing a fine job so far, apart from not supplying the League results to Jim and Don for publishing on the website.

After numerous years (so many I lost count) as secretary for the club, Audrey Boyes stood down in April. Although Audrey doesn't play squash she has spent many hours scribbling away at meetings and typing up the reports over the years and now I have a hard task to follow Audrey's commitment to the club. (Although I think she took the job to keep an eye on John!)

The entrance hall, upstairs and both changing rooms at the Club have been redecorated. We asked for quotes from various sources and after discussion gave the job to Danny McVay, who has done an excellent job. Take a look in the ladies changing room, very bright, colourful and cheerful. A big improvement on the previous ghastly shade of blue! Thanks Danny.

The Summer League Finals were held on Monday 5th of November, alas Steve Shackelton couldn't make it, a previous appointment with a bonfire and some fireworks! Excellent games from Jim Mortlock, Alistair Sutcliffe and Derek Parker, with Jim Mortlock the overall winner. Well done Jim! and commiserations to Alistair and Derek.
Thanks to Ian for organising the league and final.

Don't forget Club Night on Mondays!

Once again may thanks to the Committee and Kevin for all their help in the past year.

Alison
