Lady Valanice | ||||||||||||
Lady Valanice is my adminly avatar. She is, in short, an idealized version of myself. When I say idealized, I mean that she has all the abilities and traits that I imagine myself with, and believe I have even though no one else can see them. Well, with Lady Valanice, everyone can see most of them. As my adminly avatar, she's almost exactly like myself in personality, but with less inhibitions. Being me makes her, in short, both my hardest and easiest character to play. Easy in that I know all her tiny little quirks like favorite flower (rose), so I don't have to make them up, but hard in that sometimes things get a little too personal with her and I have to decide where to draw the line between RPG and RL. Since Lady Valanice is an Administrator in gameplay, she lives in the Administration Castle, in the front right tower as you cross the drawbridge. She has power over Narrativium, which means she has an elevated understanding of how everything works together in the RPG world to create interesting stories, and she can do nearly anything that will help advance those stories if she has to. On the flip side, it means she can't resist a good plot device, nor can she interfere with a story that's going well. If she sees that she's playing a helpless Damsel-In-Distress type role in a story, for example, she can't do anything about it. Valanice has access to worlds and information outside of the RPG world, again by virtue of her adminship and Narrativium mastery. For example, she has contact with the world Sabron, which is suspected to be part of the reason that such characters as William, Sta and Tacita are in the RPG world. She makes all sorts of obscure allusions to works of literature and art from earth, knowing full well that they won't be understood by her fellow RPG world residents. |

PERSONAL HISTORY: This isn't very important to understanding Lady Valanice, as she doesn't like to dwell in the past at all. It's not even certain exactly what world she comes from, much less what sort of family she comes from. She doesn't talk about it much in the RPG world. She is known on Sabron as The Observer, which is a legendary spirit who sees and records happenings on Sabron in conjunction with Estrella the Story Weaver. It is said it is for her storytelling that Sabron survives, although few believe the legends. She has an ethereal sword that exists between universes by merit of her position in legend. It is the Fourth Quelan Blade. Argument can also be made, due to her extensive knowledge of Earth literature and art, that she is an Earthling, but she will neither refute nor affirm this. She also refuses to tell anyone her birthdate, which leaves her age a bit of a mystery. She could be 17 or 27. She won't tell; she enjoys being an enigma. She has clearly had a strong education, with heavy emphasis on language, literature and music. Upon becoming an Administrator (if she didn't start that way...) Valanice hired her own corps of guards. The captain, Sir Sta, was brought by her will from Sabron into the Administration castle. The rest are simply young, handsome men she recruited from wherever she could find them. Rumour has it that Valanice and Sta are somehow romantically involved, but it is never certain how truthful these rumours are. Valanice started most of them herself. | ||||||||||||

Personality: Valanice is generally optimistic, although her version of optimism tends to be along the lines of "And if we're really lucky, maybe we'll get attacked by bandits along the way! Yay!" That is, she delights in things that she know will make good stories if she survives. She tends to be a bit whimsical, but be assured that there is a method to her madness--or perhaps just a madness to her method. She likes an odd mixture of bubbly-cheerful and seriously dark/horror. For example, she loves Dracula, but she also likes cute fluffy kittens. She can bounce between these extremes in a second. Of course, she also thinks that gargoyles are cute, so who can tell? Her favorite weather is, of course, torrential rain, but she doesn't love it because it's depressing--she likes to dance in it and find rainbows among the clouds. Valanice loves anything artistic. She paints, draws, sings, writes and so on. She also loves to try new things, so you never know what hobby she'll pick up next. In private, she sings constantly, but she's very self-conscious about her voice, so she'll never sing when she thinks someone's listening. She likes to wear dark clothes, but mostly because she finds them flattering and conveniently easy to keep clean. She's basically modest, but every now and then she rebels against herself (since she has no one else to rebel against). Basically, she does whatever seems like a good idea at the time. Valanice does regard people, even herself, as sort of objects--characters, really. She sees everyone as simply a character in a novel. Thus, she does genuinely care about them, but sometimes she seems a little aloof or insensitive, simply because of her objectivity. But she's very good at seeing other people's perspectives and guaging personalities--and roles in the Story. |

On a similar note, Valanice tries to be honest and good with everyone, but she can't resist a little trouble now and then. She considers herself bound by loyalty to no one, although she does possess a natural capability to be fiercely loyal. This is demonstrated by the fact that she always has an old, beaten necklace on her person (even if she's not wearing it on her neck). It once bore the word FRIENDS, but the DS fell off leaving only FRIEN. She doesn't tend to talk about that much, either, but it's clear it was given to her by someone very dear, and she likes to claim that the Necklace (as she calls it) has the Power to Rule the World. She'll never say exactly how, because she doesn't know. She also believes she has wings, but no one can see them, so that, too, can't be proven. Basically, Lady Valanice is a very eccentric and dynamic character. She can be a very good RP partner because of this, but she does like to be in control. She's only happy when she feels like she's the master of the situation (which is often). She is not romantically attatched to anyone just now, not officially (word's still out on Sta). She likes to feel independent, although, like any young lady, she wouldn't mind the attentions of a sweet suitor. She's often of two minds like that, so that's nothing new. Just keep in mind that she always has an ulterior motive, even if it 's one that would benefit everyone involved, which it usually is. |
