Tacita Channing, Black Sorceress
Tacita, or Tacey as those who know her best call her,  is reserved, gentle and naturally kind, but she is also somewhat cynical now. She's had a hard life and she's come to the RPG to start a new one. She does not often use her magical skills, but she is quite capable in a fix. She has now made quite a name for herself as a healer, even though she was not trained as a Witch Doctor, and people have been known to make pilgrimmages to her little cottage along the Modrish River, near Decision Springs, to seek her help for ailments or troubles. She is good friends with the Administrators as well, which serves her reputation further.
Personal History: Tacey comes from a small village in southern Lera, on Sabron. Her father had made a fair living as a woodcutter and blacksmith's assistant, until he died of illness, and left her and her mother without aid. Her mother was ailing as well, as age took its toll on her, leaving Tacey to take care of her. The village mage, a sort of leader among the villagers and a White Wizard who did more research than actual magic, took notice of the unfortunate family and gave them what aid he could. He especially noticed little Tacita, who was a quick learner and very keen. He provided for Tacita and her mother and asked only one thing: that he could sponsor Tacita in Magician's School, which is a sort of boarding elementary school for all mages on Sabron, and take her as an apprentice when she graduated. For this, he left her everything he owned, which was a fair estate and included a lot of arcane artifacts and books.
Tacita thrived in Magician's School. She was a very talented student, although many of the other students teased her because she was so humble, poor and non-magical in her background. But mostly they teased her because she befriended the most feared student in the school--the Quelan crown prince, Samuel. Sam was feared because not only was he the first Quelan mage for centuries, and there was a movement for Leran dominance of magic, but also because his sponsor and master was the Seedan Grey Wizard, Runda, who had more magic in his little finger than the entire White Council possessed. However, Sam and Tacey helped each other get through Magican's School, and even to graduate early for both of them. They were such close friends that everyone very much believed that, eventually, Tacey would marry Sam and become the next queen of Quela. However, their friendship was completely platonic. Neither of them ever doubted that.
However, for all the wonderful things Tacey found in the world of magic, there was also tragedy. While she studied at Magician's School, her sponsor died. After all, he was quite old.
The death of her master struck Tacita hard. She had few other allies in the magic world, and it was, at that time, a very political realm indeed. So while she inherited enough that she could easily pay her tuition and survive the rest of her life, she wanted dearly to be a White Enchantress like her master had promised she would be. She applied to the White Council so they could assign her a new master, but the Council was a foul group at the time and rejected her out of hand--mostly to irk Runda and Samuel, who had backed her request. The application went to the Dark Lord, who is the equivalent of the White Council but with jurisdiction over Black Magic. The Dark Lord was a nice man, if a bit senile at times, and quickly processed it for her. However, when they graduated, Tacey and Samuel lost contact for a while as they went their separate ways to study under their new masters. Samuel didn't know that she'd been assigned to Dissipus, an evil man and Runda's archenemy.
Some time later, while exploring in the Enchanted Forest of Lera, Sam and Runda stumbled upon Dissipus's dark cave and found Tacey there, sweeping the floor in rags like a servant. They discovered that Dissipus had done little to advance her education and instead treated his apprentice like a mere slave. She had learned a lot of Dark Magic in her stay with him, though, by sneaking time with his books and supplies when he was out, which was often. Runda and Sam were so appalled that they kidnapped her from his grasp and took her before the Dark Lord himself, arguing that Dissipus had broken the rules of apprenticeship and therefore it was the Dark Lord's duty to release Tacey from its bonds. They argued further that there was no need to assign her a new master; Tacey could take the proficiency test then and there, and would be a Black Sorceress without her master's consent. The Dark Lord agreed and Tacey passed her test. Tacey thanked Sam and Runda and decided that there they should part, and she went back to her village to take care of her mother and her people, taking over her original master's role as she'd promised.
Character at Present: Tacey is trying to put her past behind her. She was abused under Dissipus and she's determined never to let it happen again. She also doesn't want to see anyone else go through what she went through, so while she is mostly withdrawn from society, she cannot refuse a plea for help. She is modest and tends to wear her dirty blond hair in two simple plaits. She wears simple dresses that are practical and mildly flattering, and tends toward a frugal, simple lifestyle. She occasionally wears the distinctive triangle trim of White Sorceresses and Enchantresses, although she really has little right to it. However, she is capable of some White Magic, so no one has ever questioned her wearing it. It is, for her, a tribute to the kind old man who'd tried so hard to help her and given her everything he had.

Character Notes: Tacita is a native of Sabron, not the RPG world, but she is quite at home in the RPG world. She came through the same way the others from Sabron came--a portal created by a coalition of Estrella the Story Weaver and The Observer (Valanice). This is why she settled near the Administration Castle--she is good friends with Valanice and Sta because they know her origins. She knew Sta when she was still in Magician's School, when he served Runda and his wife, Lady Careena. And Valanice helped bring her to this new life, so she is grateful for that.
In a plot, one might encounter Tacey while she is gathering herbs for her potions, or seek her help for a trouble that magic or healing might aid. Romance is unlikely with her, as she has a bit of distrust for both men and company and wants, above all else, her space and peace and quiet in it. Also, being plain as she is, anyone falling in love with her would probably love her for something deeper than appearances, so love at first sight is pretty unlikely. However, she will refuse no one who asks for her help, no matter who he might be.
Tacey is unlikely to lose her temper; she is far more likely to shrink away and try to hide. She works hard out of habit. She also will probably never attack anyone with magic, although she will use it for defense. She tends mostly to be nothing more than quiet, gentle and compassionate.
